Hello there
I just have a few questions about the Authors RPG part of the site. I wasn't sure where to put. I did look over all the help things I could find and the rules but I may have missed it.

#1 Do I need to post in Third or first person. I've posted in Third person for years but what is this sites preference?

#2 Regarding magic, does it need to be specific spells or can it be a manipulation of an element. I used to be a member of a popluar (back in the day) Final Fantasy RPG that let people Chose some elements and we were able to describe what we did with the element in detail, and do pretty much what we wanted dependend on our characters level of skill, power level and such.

These are the main questions I had that I couldn't find in any of the help threads. Sorry if these have already been answered.

I have a character that has been developed over a number of years and have an outline of his bio that I'm considering putting forward.

Thanks in advance.

I'll shift this over to the RP section since it seems like that's what you're looking for. The RPG section and the RP section are different as the RPG section refers to the RPG Inferno. :)

*Moved to Roleplay Central: The Idea Lobby*

That's up to the individual RP Leader. The majority of RPs go in 3rd person, but I know of one RP that's active right now that is in 1st.

We actually prefer all spells be unique, especially if it's an original character. Now, obviously, if you're RPing Vivi in an FF9 RP, you would be allowed to use Fire, Comet, Flare, etc. But if you brought your own character into the fray, the prefence is that if you have a fire-elemental spell, that you don't call it simply "Fire" or "Fireball." We likes the creativity much. So manipulate away.

No problem. Any other questions you have, feel free to ask.

Thanks for the quick reply.

So I can manipulate magic, but I would need to tie it to a spell? so if I did this.

e.g. Filendie grasped and pulled on his magic. He drew the water out of the air and froze it to a focus point in front of him. The air sparkled and a crackling noise could be heard as a large shard of ice rippled into the air. The young mage willed the ice and pushed in forward with a quick motion of his hand.

Would I be able to do this without having to specify it in my Bio that I could? and if I do need to specify it, could I make the spell more of a guideline so with it I could make more than one at a time or make the shard larger or smaller?

Or could I put that he could manipulate Ice and give some example spells to show what kind of things he can do, but make it up as I go along??

You could class it as either a spell or an ability. Either way it would work out the same, more or less. But if you classed his ability as being able to manipulate water in his surroundings, you could be a bit more broad and far-reaching with it, which is what I think you're getting at with the 'guideline' thing.

It should still be in the bio either way because, frankly, we want to know what your character can do.
