i have been trying my games on my new ps3 and some work different and some dont work at all and i have heard some games dont work with ps3 (good job i kept my ps2) so does anyone know which games work okay with ps3? games such as kingdom hearts 2 has very slow music and ff9 dosent play cutscenes properly but ff7 works fine and lotr does not work at all

I was told that both PS1 and PS2 games will play on the PS3. Maybe its the games themsleves, are they scratched?

no they are in good condition it says i need an update or something along those lines to play them one funny part of kh2 is the organisation boss music it sounds vampiric with the ps3

by the way does anyone know if you can play psp games on a ps3?

if your from england then your right some of the games are not compatable with the PS3 american and Japanese consoles are backward compatable on all games.

EDIT: its becasue they had to change the console for our electricity voltage and stuff.

when they made the PS3 for the UK you must remember they had problems with it so they had to miss their deadline? that was becasue they had to change the technology from the jap/american consoles so that it would work on our power supply. aparantly when they tested the products they were over heating and catching fire.
they had hoped to "iron out the kinks" in the later versions of the PS3 but i dont think they will.
Here is a simple soulition: Dont do a part exchange using your PS2 for the PS3. if you cant afford the PS3 without doing that then wait till it drops in price.

I don't know if theres any specific difference between models for countries. But originally PS3 was soppuse to use legency hardware to allow play of PS1 and PS2 games. Then they removed it so it would be cheaper. So they use software Emu for PS1 and PS2 games which some games are not compatible with. Sony said they will give online updates.

Also some games for the American and Jap ones don't work for ours.

Wow! That sucks for you guys. Supposedly in America all games are 'backwards compatible', whatever Sony claims. I heard about that the PS3 has over heated and caused fires. I use to work at Gamestop for the holiday season. When my store got our PS3 display it died in 3 days. EB games, upstairs from Gamestop, their display PS3 overheated in 2 days. :P

All PS1 and PS2 games are "supposed" to work on the PS3. The only issue is that the first wave of PS3s that were released are all loaded with glitches...which is the same case that's occuring with the Xbox 360 at the moment.

You should have waited until the next wave came through before you purchased. You realize that the PS3 was release way before it was intended to just in order to compete with the wii and the 360, which means...it was producted in a rush...resulting in...GLITCHES.

Nope. The people who purchased the PS3 when they first came out were the smart ones. Even as we speak, Sony is making the backwards computability (the ability to play PSX and PS2 games on the PS3) a software (something you have to purchase and install on the harddrive of your machina) and halting production of the units that come with it included as a hardware (meaning it's prepackaged so that it can handle the older titles.)

Yes, there's a few glitches here and there, but Sony provides ample updates and patches to deal with any and all problems.

Isn't there actually a way to chip a PS3 so that you can dowload and burn games that can play on your console?

I've looked it up on their website and FFVII is the only one that isn't compatible with the PAL PS3's. I can't remember FFVIII and FFIX that much but FFX has noticeable issues and FFXII has minor issues.

I found this awhile back at ukresistance.co.uk of the top 50 games on Gamesranking.com compatible with the PAL PS3's

Some of these are old sports games but some of these games are pretty new like Final Fantasy XII, Dragon Quest VIII, Okami and Guitar Hero II having problems aswell as popular games like Ratchet & Clank, Final Fantasy X, Grand Theft Auto: Sand Andreas, Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid 2 having problems. Infact, I don't think the whole Ratchet & Clank series works at all.

Sorry mate. I've played all of those games mentioned above on me PS3. And they've performed perfectly. Perhaps the list has been outdated due to the patches I keep mentioning...
