battles are a very important part in FF, if not after the story the most important thing... so it's important to have an easy gameplay, so...

what kind of battle style would you prefer to be used in the game.

something new? similar to an earlier game? which game?

personally i hope they use the FFX style, with overdrives and you having the time to think over your moves, without having to worry about a monster pwning your ass while thinking what spell or ability you're gonna use

i think the same way Raptorg. the last one, FFXII is a bit difficult because ur enemis has the chance to beat ur ass when u r about to release ur last hope of victory. the gameplay is cool but, when u have a last drop of life, a critical hit can mess everything up during a important battle.

i hope in FFXIII, enix will review all this. it woulb be interesting to mix the gameplay of FFX and FFXII. idk how the would do it and wut it would look like, but the result should be interesting

I really liked FFX's battle system because of the simplicity and the ability to swap characters out, but...it was too easy afterall...I don't think I've ever lost a fight...

I like being under pressure in battles, but I'm also a fan of turn based systems as well...I hope it isn't Kingdom Hearts style...=x

From the looks of the battle screenshot in this scan, it seems as if it will be somewhat of a strategically based system...:

If you look at the bottom right picture, you'll see it indicates a "chain" attack...and there is a round bar in the upper right corner of the screen...
It also looks like you would be able to make consecutive attacks...

And the bar in the upper right may be some kind of power bar...

Well I did read that you'll be able to perform chain attacks. I that the ATB cost, at bottom of the chain commands, will force you to make a decision of what and how many attacks will make your chain (using up the ATB gauge by their respective amounts as you select the attacks for the chain).
I think that the chain feature allowed square to really dramatise and exagerate the characters performanceduring battle. With a chain attack the character will perform all attacks once the chain is created, automatically, and because you're not telling her to do each attack one after the other (in which she'll have to pause and then do the following attack once you've selected it) she'll be able to chain them into a fluent and exagerated combonations of attacks.
This, in turn, will create that sense of speed and dramatic, over-the-top, system square-enix want.

I honestly don't care as long as it's not more like an action adventure game. I want my RPGs to be RPGs. I like movement. I like action. But I don't want Kingdom Hearts. Button mashing and my character all over the place like a slinky in a blender. I'm not a big fan of that.

If the game is face pased and strategic, like FFX-2 was, then I'd be really happy. I also want overdrives or limit breaks... but I'd really appreciate if they didn't drain your MP because I think that is the dumbest thing in the world. Limit breaks are all about you fighting so long and so hard that you're adrenaline is through the roof and you just explode in one massive attack. Not anything magical.

I agree with everyone here. I'd want some overdrives and limit break where you can unleash a powerful attack, without depleting all of your MP. I actually like the FFXII battle-system though, surprisingly. So something similar to that (but not too similar!) would be alright for me. Or, something like VII and X. I don't know, just as long as it's unique and user-friendly, then I'll be happy with it. ^_^

I would want the battle system to be like the old games, you know random battles and stuff.
Battle system like FFVII and so on :)

well did you see the trailer for that game, it looked like that was actual gameplay/battle sytem footage

But since only a few percents of the game is done I don't think it was actual gameplay.

Well Square had said that they trailer they showed at E3 was real time. So if they ahve the battle system up, my guess is they're mostly done. From what I understand it takes about 75% of the time making the game and 25% correcting errors and glitches. My guess is that's the portion they're on now, especially since they're expecting a 2008 release and they started the project back in 2004. So that'd be just about right.

I believe it is Versus XIII that's moving along a bit slowly in regards to production. I think the E3 trailer of XIII is a clear indication of what to expect from the battle system. It looks very nice to me.

since i watched WoW trailers and actually played the game, i no longer trust trailers

in the most recent WoW trailer, from the burning crusade expansion you see a paladin swinging his huge hammer at some enemies... while in fact paladins in WoW stand in the back with a 1handed healing mace and shield healing other players

or you see the human mage in the first trailer using fireballs on infernals, which are actually immune to fire based attacks...

can't say i trust trailers anymore now i'm a very experienced WoW player and almost everything in the trailers is bullshit...

ok i get all this and what not sorry if i'm going off topic but when exactly is it coming out? or does any one no?

no one knows FF games get delayed so much it could com out late 2009:blink: but i hope not

I know alot of people are going to get mad at me for saying this but i would pefer it to go back to turn-based. thats the way i grew up around in all the FF games

i think most people actually LIKE turn-based... it's the most reliable, and easiest way of fighting, since you actually have time to think over your move, in FFX-2 i usually end up spamming "attack" or "pray(white mage)" instead of casting any spells...
