Gaia & Terra: Final Fantasy IX Fanclub!

I'm confused when it comes to that. Some say he's 9 years old (which would give us a reason he WAS first) and others say he's 1. If he wasn't a prototype, well, we should all get together and write SE a letter on how did Vivi get children. Haha, what a mess would that be.

Actually, Vivi is less than one year old. He's about six Months old. If you look at the Ultimania Omega, it places Vivi as being born in 1799, less than a year before the start of the game.

At six months old, Vivi is the youngest playable character in the history of the FF series. :yay:

Firstly, I agree with the widespread view that Vivi dies at the end of the game. But I think Black Mages don't reproduce as such - I'm not sure they even have genders - and Vivi simply found how to create more Black Mages (and in doing so, they became his 'children'). I could be wrong though.

I want to join! FFIX is by far the most underrated FF game. People dismiss it because of it's "kiddie" graphics. Um, it had the same graphics as IV-VI, just in 3D!

And IX is the last Final Fantasy game where I could feel like I was apart of the world. Everything felt real. (X was too much in a straight line to feel connected with the world) This game is anything but childish and it's acutally quite dark.

The game probably has the best score of any FF game. I loved Melodies of Life as it was a nice bittersweet song. And Kuja's battle theme was awesome. Necron's theme was just down right creepy.

Oh and best mini games ever! I love chocobo treasure, espeically with the music that played.

Also, Zidane and Dagger and Steiner and Beatrix are the best FF couples ever!

I'm glad you're a fan, Rydia! Consider yourself in!

And let's discuss a different topic, all of you. What's your favorite skill on your favorite character?

I've always liked Freya's jump ability. It was nice to use when I was up against a tougher enemy, I could just have her jump and she's miss some of the super attacks.
And her limit break was nice too because she'd stay up in the air and miss even more attacks XD

Steiner's Sword Magic in combination with Vivi was pretty useful, and Quina's Blue Magic had some good skills you could learn - especially Level 5 Death, which made fighting Grand Dragons and levelling up later in the game a lot easier!

A friend and I were talking about the Vivi thing again. He went back and played the game again, and could determine that Vivi is at least 6-8 years old. Meaning, he's lived longer than any other Black Mage. He can also reproduce.

So I believe Vivi to be the prototype of a new series of Black Mages that was lost on the way to Alexandria.

In the beginning of the game, a lot of people seem to know what Vivi is. But there are no other Black Mages around at this point, and no one fears Vivi at all. I believe that this could be explained by the (in-game) Black Mages to be built off of blueprints that Kuja made from studying a long extinct race of Black Mages.

This is just my theory though. It's highly likely that it's wrong. :hmmm:

In the game manual, doesn't it say that Vivi is 9 years old? There was also something about Vivi living ten times long as the other black mages, who only live a year. Which would make Vivi live to about ten years. The ending of FFIX supposedly takes place a year after the game.

I've lost my game manual so I can't check it. Don't know how accurate this website is, but it says that official sources say that Vivi is 9 years old while Ultimania says that Vivi is 6 months. Scroll down to the bottom.

Interesing, it also says that Vivi's name means "I lived"
