I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but I just got to Disc 3 on my new file, went to the battle arena, got omnislash, left and saved at the ropeway station. I came back a little later and before going up the stairs to the battle arena I talked to the lady at the bottom of the stairs and she said "Wow, I watched you win 8 battles, take this." Then she gave me some sprint shoes. In all my years of playing I have never discovered or heard about this, what I would like to know is if anyone else has. Thanks.

Yeah, I think that woman says something about not seeing a decent fighter in ages if you talk to her before you go in then if you do pretty well and talk to her again, you get the sprint shoes

Yeah, I knew about this. Ha ha, it's really something when you discover something new, like that, after playing the game for so long. I still find various things, about VII, that I never noticed before. Glad you found them!
It was purely by chance that I spoke to this woman, much to my delight. 
Ultimately I didn't make that much use out of the Shoes in question, but still... it was a nice little reward for exerting no effort at all. ;p

Found that on my first playthrough. I guess I really like paying attention to detail.
