I've been around a lot of different Final Fantasy forum in my gaming career. Year after year, everywhere I go, all the topics seem to be the same for certain topics. I can't figure out why. Maybe each game has such a specific style that it only encourages certain types of conversations but I'm not sure. All the Final Fantasy's are deep, even the ones I don't like as much. It's not the quality of the poster, so don't take any of this personally. One forum doesn't produce "better" topics than another, just very different topics.

Final Fantasy VII, as much as I love it, doesn't seem to encourage a lot of deep conversations. The majority of FFVII topics are comparison topics. They're not usually deep or analytical. It may be because the game does a good job of explaining everything and not leaving many plot gaps but I'm really not sure. Examples: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6...

Final Fantasy VIII inspires a little more analytical and varied topics. Although a lot are still comparison topics, there are a lot more that analyse and diagnose the plot and characters. Honestly, I think part of it is because there is some serious confusion about the plot of the game. Comparison Examples: 1, 2, 3... Analytical Examples: 4, 5, 6...

I really feel bad for Final Fantasy IX. I have yet to see almost any topics about the plot or its complexities. There's not even a lot of character comparison topics. The most interesting FFIX topic I've ever read was "I like Burmencia, how bout you?". It just doesn't ever seem to have any good topics about anything deep. The majority are about minor sidequests or irrelevant additions to the game. Examples: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6...

Final Fantasy X is probably the best out of all of them. It is always filled with lots of analytical topics trying to diagnose exactly what happened during the course of the game and over the last thousand years. On occassion there are character comparison topics, typically comparing Auron to any other character. For the most part though, it is one of the best for having very deep meaty topics. I think it's because the story is so deep but so much is left for speculation. Examples: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6...

Thoughts? Agree? Disagree?

Interesting! I know that when things concern VII some debate or comparison topics can become VERY heated and outright ridiculous many times.

On some forums I've visited, VIII experiences invasions from rabid VII fans and then that becomes a fight of whose cooler, Cloud or Squall. And it basically a long and amusing flame war.

Yes, and IX gets no love. Sometimes you'll get a "Just what gender is Quina?" Or "Who's hotter? Dagger or Beatrix?"

And I love the "XIII is going to be an awesome game because it's on the PS3!"

Man oh man do I hate "... vs. ..." topics!! Atleast give a few more options to choose from. More than 2...please...
Here are a few examples which make me want to bang my head into a cinder block:

Link vs. Cloud
Samus vs. Master Chief
Superman vs. Goku (still going)
Wolverine vs Sora (this one is funny)
Rap vs. Rock
AND
the Systems vs. topic
They're repetitive and only work in getting everyone in one hell of a mood. With a siingle detail someone disagrees, they flame him/her in groups or only one person, and most of the time, two or more people end up not talking to each other. Besides, it only gets frowns from me.

They need to be more specific. Topics such as "Cloud vs. Sephiroth; WHO'S BETTER?!" does no justice to the convo. What are we comparing? Everyone can take a different route here. Fighting power? Personality? Level-headedness? Ahh, how about how big their swords are! Oh, oh! I got one! Try this one next time for a comparison topic: "Who could manage a Burger King and pull in more profits annually: Cloud or Sephiroth?!!?"

OMFG STEAM R0XX0RS TEH BIG ONE111!

In all seriosness now.
"Final Fantasy X is probably the best out of all of them." "...the story is so deep but so much is left for speculation."
The only ones with the complete handle on the game, are the creaters of it, and that's what I love about it. You won't understand this game 100%; ever. However, you sure as hell can come up with some great theories, stories, conenctions, and develop a deep passion for the game's plot.

I think that as the series continues, we will begin to examine much more of the plotline, maybe not as much as FFX's, but even with FFXII you can think to yourself "Wait a second...where did this Sun-Cryst come from and why is it so important to the Occuria?" and it will spins the wheels of everyone's brains for at least 20 pages or so. I think as the series progresses and continues, we'll see deeper and deeper plots in the future. FFX was a diamond; let's hope for similar in years to come.

Yes, I hate vs threads. There needs to be one for IX. How about Eiko vs. Garnet, who would win in an all out bitch fight?

And to answer you BK question, Sephiroth of course! Anyone who didn't buy from him would have the masamune impaled into them.

For once I think we can finally agree on the same plane of direction...

My favorite FFVII topics involve clarity:
The Jenova Project.
Who were the Gi Tribe?
Can Red XIII mate with Humans. lol.

My favorite FFVIII topic of all time:
Rinoa/Ultimecia theory

And FFIX is one of my favorite games, though...there isn't much to speculate since everything is totally clarified in the game...
