| Final Fantasy VIII The first game in the series to consistently use realistically proportioned characters, FF8 also threw more of a futuristic mix into the old (Hi-)potion that is Final Fantasy. |

Dream World
Have any of you ever wondered why Squall, Selphy, and Zell would fall asleep and dream of Laguna, Kiros, and Ward? (On the way to Timber, for instance.) And the weird thing is that they all dreamt the same thing. Zell said it might be that someone released some sleeping gas (although I doubt that's it). I mean, I can understand if ONLY Squall dreams of Laguna and his gang, but what does it have to do with Zell and Selphy?
And then when they were in the forest (forgot the name), Squall, Selphy, and Quistis fell into the "dream world" again, while Rinoa and Zell remained conscious. Um, why didn't Zell dream again when he did so the first time? Instead they replaced him with Quistis. Or does it really matter which character dreams?
Well then, who is responsible for these bizarre experiences? Couldn't possibly be Ellone because she was no where near the party, right? I just find it weird that they really never explained it in the game of why these things happened. Or did they? O.o I really don't think so...

Ellone has the power to let someone that she knows, experience something that somebody else she knows, has already experienced. Since she knows Selphie, Squall, Quistis, Irvine, & Zell, when she sends them back they all go back at the same time. But since there is only 3 people to receive them (Laguna, Ward, & Kiros) only 3 people can be sent back at once.

In all honesty, this is one of the reasons I need to go back and play the game again. Besides the family connection of Laguna and Squall, I did not understand any of the Lunatic Pandora parts and the Laguna dreams.

Omnislasher answered it.
But what you said about Zell and Quistis taking turns passing out...I think it has to do with who's in your party at the time being.

Yep, Omni's right. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me either, but that is the case. I wish my random superpower was to be able to knock random people unconscious and have them dream about people of the past that somewhat kinda not really influence what you're doing in the present.

Hmm, I see. Well that clears things up. Thanks Omni. I just don't comprehend the reason why there is the need to do that. I mean, I guess it did help the players understand the whole Laguna story... but for Squall and his party to actually go to the dream world and experience it...it's all just too weird and unnecessary, IMO. Square could've easily just told us the story without using the dream world. >.<

The reason Ellone was trying to do this was to see if she can get Laguna to save her adoptive mother (I forget her name) before she died. Or something more or less around those lines.

It wasnt exactly confirmed that Squall and Laguna are related but it strongly hints that Squall is Laguna's son and Ellone has to the power to send people she knows back into the past and she done it to save Raine i think

Actually...someone clear this up for me.
Supposedly Raine died in childbirth, so there really was no way to save her...the only thing Ellone could do was bring Laguna back to be with her just one more time. Which is at the end of the game when he travels back through time compression and asks Raine to marry him.
Did Ellone KNOW that Laguna couldn't save Raine, or did she go through all of that trouble just to get him to marry her? =x
