Flowers don't bloom any where in the slums but they have no problem blooming in the church and at Aerith's house, why is this? Is it something to do with Aerith being an Ancient? If so why are they still there after her death?
I know her precence is still there in the AC an' that so would that mean they will die eventually? Seeing as she left with Zack at the end. Anyone got any interesting theories?

I don't know why I just thought of this but it always made me wonder lol

I think Aeris hordes her own excrement, using it as fertilizer in select areas around the slums. Oh! More. Once she dies, there's no one left to continue fertilizing the earth.

That's my best guess. :monster:

The Ancient thing is a nicer theory.

I remember Mark mentioning something about her flowers flourishing at the church in one of my threads.

I shall quote him:

Aerith said:
Yeah, the healing water was meant to be like, a visual representation of Aeriths Great Gospel limit break, I think the fact that it was always under the flowerbed explains why flowers were able to grow in the church. As for why it didn't appear when Tifa fought Loz, well Kadaj blasted a huge hole in the floor didn't he? That gave the water something to escape out of.

That makes a lot of sense to me, so I'm sticking with that explanation.

I don't remember any healing water *tries to think* That would explain it really well if I could think where this water came from >_<

@Frisky: After Kadaaj does his scream "mother/kaasan" and escapes on the fallen pillar from the church, the water gizer thing falls gently onto Cloud, ridding him of his geostigma on his arm that he hid from view from the others. You hear Aerith's voice saying something like "let's go, Cloud".

Since Aerith pretty much finished her duty, helping Cloud get rid of his guilt, I would think that the water eventually disappears or at least lose their restorative power when Aerith crosses to the other side with Zack.

The water was basically for the purposes of the geostigma, which did eventually get eradicated.

The healing water comes up from underneath the flower bed after Kadaj blasts it with energy, showing how the water is mixed with the lifestream. This shows both how the flowers were able to grow, since the lifestream would give, well, life and how the water would be able to cure the Geostigma.

the Church is a holy place so flowers will grow there, it's a sign of hope & life...

the slums are run down and everyone is depressed, so there is no flowers there

simple.

I need to watch Advent Children again me thinks :monster:

I was thinking it was in the game & thought I was losing my mind lol. Only seen it twice and I don't have the greatest memory in the world. It certainly explains it tho ^_^

I always thought that it had something to do with religion and how the flowers were blessed by the Ancients and whatnot. But now that I think about it, Mark's explanation makes sense. I just never took the time to mull over why the flowers would be there, but they were pretty sweet for Advent Children.

The healing water explains why they were in the church, but it doen't explain why they grew at her house as well... Maybe she moved some of the flowers from the church to her house, and because they had been in the same soil as the healing water, they were able to grow?

I always thought she just moved the flowers from the church to her home, and put them into plant pots or something. It would make sense that she used the same soil too.

it's not explained in the game why the flowers are there, maybe it's just such a minor detail that they (the makers) didn't bother explaining it?

i agree i think its to do with as its a holy place and areith happens to be an ancient and she found the flowers grew in the place where maybe its a small gap in the lifestream where the holy water can rise to the surface this would then explain why at the end of AC the holy water rises out of the flowers and turns into a pool of healing water, this also shows how that 500 years later (end of VII begining of AC) midgar is reclaimed by the lifestream and flowers grow alll round the city. This could be also be shown as what arieth as an ancient is able to do once she has died, she is still there in spirit and over the years is able to return midgar back to its natural state how the lifestream and world once made it.

Holy water/holy place sounds good for the Church. As for why they could grow outside Aeriths house, maybe the fact there is running water (if you look in the background, a mini waterfall) nearby could be the reason the soil is fertile enough for flowers.
