Final Fantasy XIII Battle System

i love FFXIII's battle system.. its really enjoyable.. for me, its the best so far.. i love it more than FFXII because in that game, you could even leave your controller and do something else.. and its better than the turn based system becuse for me, it is already getting old and boring.. i like something new and something action packed so that i could think more for a strategy or something like that...

yeah, it's a little hard to get used to but the paradigm shift system makes up for it.

Mod Edit: Could you please add a bit more effort to your post? Thanks ^^

I'm fine with the battle system, in fact it's my favourite battle system over any other Final Fantasy title. I can understand peoples' gripes with not being able to control more than one character at any given time but I can understand why, with the speed monsters attack at and constantly having to switch paradigms there'd really be no time to focus on which characters should do what, to me what makes the battle system stand out is the paradigm system purely because it makes you think and not just hit them with your strongest attack.

How do you guys feel about Auto-battle? Just curious, because I can't see this system played any other way. It's too quick to put in your own commands. If you want to stop charging the ATB bar and use only 1 command you could just press triangle anyway...

It's definitely the most rewarding and satisfying. You feel great when you overcome a formidable opponent because stratergy plays a much more prominent role in this battle system over previous ones; and because you're stratergizing at such a swift pace (constantly thinking on your feet) it provides an even greater sense of satisfaction.

The Auto-Command is great for those who can't keep up with the system. It can be pretty overwhelming (especially as things get more complicated) so the ability to have the game select efficient commands for you is a godsend. For me, though, I use Ability and select my own commands. I've got the hang of things now and am able to move faster when adapting with Paradigms and selecting commands I feel work well. There's always the 'Repeat' function which allows you to mimic the same commands you inputed on your previous turn, which is great.

I just find it more satisfying and rewaring to be more in control, rather than let the game do it for me. I fully understand why people opt for the Auto command, however, and you still have to change Paradigms so it's not like you give the game full control.

Yeah, Auto battle is where it's at, FinalHeart. The only times I don't use it are when I want to use a specific Buff/Debuff on a party member/enemy, or use a few specific commands in order. But most of the time, the AI is extremely intelligent and gets the job done just fine. I <3 this battle system.

I had my doubts before the game, but that's quickly changed. I love the battle system and I think it's the best out of all the other battle systems in the series. The sequence is just really easy to comprehend and most of the time you can just sit back, hit 'Auto-battle' and just watch the action and admire the gorgeous graphics.

Not a bad idea actually. There really is nothing gained from leveling up your roles from what I can see, at least stat-wise. Just bragging rights and the ability to move on in the crystarium pretty much.

you wrong every time you get a magic hp are str in any class it add to your total.

I gotten all above lvl 4 all the 3 main jobs for each person.
Trust me you will need and wont to lvl all are you will fall behind and be a lot harder to win battles.

So it DOES give a stat bonus, it just doesn't say so?

this battle system is starting to be become overwhelming. Paradigms, staggering, chain attacks, techniques... I can barely think straight. And it's like every other battle is a new tutorial to add to the confusion. And it seems like I have a lot of trouble chaining attacks to stagger an enemy, i set up an entire chain and my party is also attacking. The chain bar get's almost all the way to stagger the foe, but it's like 1% away. then it drops back down. WTF!!!!!

Use a Commando. They keep the chain gauge from dropping so rapidly. A good idea is to start each battle with a Commando, Ravager, and Ravager. That way, you keep the chain gauge from dropping while simultaneously raising it.

What lionheartcs said. I'm pretty sure Saboteurs lower the rate of the chain gauge dropping as well, so you might want to try a SAB, RAV, RAV combo, then switch to COM, COM, RAV when the enemy is staggered.

But without a doubt, lionheart's idea is good.

At first, it's a lot to take in I must admit but, I think I got the system down :ryan:

It is a lot when you first get the "jobs" and switching and whatnot since the battles so fast-paced. You also have to watch for your character HP as well.

I quite enjoy it--actually so far- its great and easy once ya get the hang of it.

It's like a mix of Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy X-2 on crack. I love it.

My Edit: The majority of my posts are fairly large. And I think I expressed my view of the battle system fairly clearly with one sentence. I don't know what everyone has against one sentence replies, as they can sometimes express exactly what you're trying to say. But okay, I'll try to add something.

It's a very hectic battle system. You're constantly switching paradigms to heal, attack, and defend. It's probably my favorite battle system thus far, though XII, X, and VII are all high on the list as well.

the tutorials do get people overwhelmed lol,
it's like omg more battle techniques to remember!!!
the battle system is something new,
I like it better than the battle system in ffxii,
It does feel very X-2 battlesystem typish,
which i actually loved, not the game but the battlesystem.
