A quest to write his own story. This is Tidus' goal in Final Fantasy X, which is arguably one of the best in the franchise. The game itself was the first to debut on the then new PlayStation 2, and suprisingly, had only one disc for the entire game. But don't let one disc fool you: this disc is jam-packed with a killer story, memorable characters, and one of the best love stories to enter the franchise.

The story begins in Zanarkand, present day. The main character is Tidus, who is introduced as a Blitzball super-star. Blitzball is the main sport of the world, Spira. While in the middle of the blitzball game, a gigantic monster who sucks in the entire city, along with Tidus and a mysterious friend of Tidus' dad, Auron. Auron pulls Tidus reluctantly into the time warp, quoting "This is your story!" When Tidus awakens, he realizes that he's "not in Kansas anymore..." XD, but he is actually in Spira as it was, 1000 years before he was sucked into the giant monster. turns up on a small Island named Besaid, which is home to the worst blitzball team in the league, the Besaid Aurochs, led by another new character, an eccentric man named Wakka. Wakka definitely keeps up the old Final Fantasy tradition of crazy hair styles, that's for sure. Wakka is guardian to the newly crowned summoner, Yuna. They have to guard Yuna on her way to the old Zanarkand, which is a city of ruins. There she obtains the final aeon and truly becomes High Summoner. Along the way, they encounter the "Sephiroth of FFX", Seymour Guado. He actually kidnaps Yuna at a point and tries to marry her, against the wishes of her guardians. Seymour, throughout the game,Seymour keeps running to Tidus and the gang, trying to destroy them along with the rest of Spira, since he believes that dying is the only true way to escape Sin, who is the giant monster. A high summoner's role after obtaining the final aeon is to fight and kill Sin, thus bringing about a "calm" among Spira. The catch, however. is that once Sin is killed, the high summoner who killed him must take his place. Which basically means that he never dies, just like Sin among humans never really goes away. Of course, it wouldn't be a Final Fantasy without some kind of love interest, in this case between Tidus and Yuna. Who could forget that famous kiss cut scene in Macalania Forest? I couldn't, honestly. XD Learning of this loophole with Sin, Yuna and Tidus are determined to find a new, and permanent, way to destroy Sin. They end up calling all of the Aeons, which are brought by the Fayth, a collection of all of the departed souls on Spira. When the true boss is revealed within Sin, it is revealed as Yu Yevon, the so-called founder of the Yevon faith that everyone practices throughout Spira. Yuna destroys Yu Yevon, but at one costly price: she loses her love, Tidus. The catch? Tidus never really exhisted in the first place. He was actually a "dream of the fayth", and since the fayth died away, he faded away, as well. This disappearance spawned the famous "true squeal of Final Fantasy" :Final Fantasy X-2, which will be discussed at a later time. ;) The story was phenomenal. It truly blew me away! It was totally 10/10. :D

Along with Wakka and Tidus, Yuna has other guardians: Lulu, a black mage who is like a sister to Yuna; and Khimari, a sort of lion/man who comes from a race of other lion/men and women on Mt. Gagazet. later on, the crew meets Rikku, a very hyper Al-Bhed, who is actually a cousin of Yuna. They also run into Auron again, and he becomes another guardian to Yuna. Other characters include Seymour, the antagonist of most of the game; Cid, the airship pilot and fater of Rikku and uncle to Yuna; Brother, Rikku's brother who appears for a short time and doesn't speak english; and much more entertaining NPC characters. This wacky cast of eccentric, yet dynamic characters makes FFX's story flow smoothly. 10/10.

Coming off of Final Fantasy IX when I played this, I was used to the Active Time Battle system. But X introduced a new type of battle system that used a preview window at the top right corner of the battle screen so the player could tell which character, friend or foe, would attack next. Another major change was the ability to actually switch out party members. If none in the party could handle the monster at hand, but someone waiting in the wings could, the player could actually switch a character out for that one. Although the new format was tough to get used to, I give it a 9.6/10, because once you have it down, it's really a breeze!

Controls aren't something I notice too much in a game, to be honest, but the one thing I like about the controls is that, mainly, vibration was an actual option this time! Sorry, but I didn't notice the controls! I'll go ahead and give them a 10/10, sine they weren't bad enough for me to notice!

Graphics, especially during the cut-scenes, were phenomenal! They were truly life-like for the time that the game came out. And the game play graphics weren't too shabby, either. They incorporated, for the first time, voices for the characters, instead of pop-up boxes with the dialogue inside. And the character's mouths moved with every word they spoke, as well. Another FF feat! definitely a 10/10.

Sound, voice wise, could get a little wonky at times. Mainly because you can get really tired of listening to Tidus' whiny and arrogant voice after 10 minutes of dealing with it. The songs, however, where great. I espically loved "To Zanarkand". So I'll give this an 8/10.

There were also the mini games you played to get the sigils for the ultimate weapons, which got annoying honestly. Who couldn't stand the butterfly thing in Macalania woods, or the Chocobo balloon race in the Calm Lands? I couldn't. But after I actually achieved these prizes, I was so happy! IU'll give the games a 6/10, just because they were annoying as hell. -__-

Replay value is though the roof on this one. I could sit down and play it over and over again, and still would play it more. The only drawback: for me, since I collected every Aeon, every ultimate weapon, and finished out the Monster Arena, it took me 175 and a half hours to complete this game. So if you don't want to fully 100% complete it, it's a great game. it also is if you want to 100% it too, but you better be prepared to spend a lot of your time on it! Replay value: 9.8/10.

To Recap my scores:
Storyline: 10/10
Characters: 10/10
Battle System: 9.6/10
Controls: 10/10
Graphics: 10/10
Sound: 8/10
Other features (Mini-Games): 6/10
Replay Value: 9.8/10

Overall score on this game is mainly a 9.9/10, since there were a few drawbacks to it. But overall, I really enjoyed this game. I actually have the urge to play it again, but I'm in school and cannot devote the time to it. :gasp:. But if I could, I definitely would. :D
