Well I am fairly new to the Final Fantasy Series and after beating VII I made the decision to start from the series roots and begin playing Final Fantasy 1 on the Origins disk. After turning it on I was immediately unsure of what to do. Are the four classes I initially choose permanent or can you change them throughout the game? Also I have acquired a befallen comrade (my black mage died) how do I revive him? I tried the inn but no luck. Thank you everyone

Im pretty sure you either have to go to some church thing and revive that way, or use phoenix downs, can't quite remember....

Also, the classes you choose you are stuck with , til you get a class upgrade later on, like, warrior to night, thief to er.....ninja?

Bah fuzzy memory is fuzzy

Aw you foolish child. Discovering it's roots before you've had the main feast, a horrid sense of irritation shall befall you now.....

The four classes are permanent. Later in the game you get a chance to 'up-grade' them to higher versions of that class but essentially you can not change otherwise.

To revive fallen characters there is a building in most towns called a sanctuary (when you enter it's rather church-like). Go up to the alter and you'll be able to revive characters. Or use Phoenix Downs but they are rare in the beginning and rather expensive.

I also suggest reading threads regarding FFI in the Help Booth and the FFI section as most of your questions will of already have been answered there.

As said, the classes are permanent, with the exception of the mid-game class change. You can only revive through the sanctuary or a phoeniox down. but I think the best advice is just to not die; have a white mage, and let her heal liberally, and carry a full stock of potions, healing after virtually every battle. Be prepared for a lot of grinding. Overall though, it is an enjoyable game. Have fun while it lasts -- FFII is extremely neuralgic, but after that the series just gets better and better!

LOL Thanks for all your guys ahelp and criticism. I will keep all that information in mind and any other tips anyone wants to share it would be helpful thanks again.

Okay, I know this game inside and out. You start by making a good party. Choose Warrior-Thief-WhiteMage-BlackMage, it's the easiest one for beginners.

Now, go into the town and buy a few spells, weapons, and armor. Go to the castle and talk to the king. Now the game really starts.

If you want a full walkthrough, [this] is an awesome site completely devoted to FF1 coverage.
