Final Fantasy IV: The After

FFIV Sequel?!

So I was checking out the Japanese Square-Enix site, and I saw this link to "Final Fantasy IV: The After":

http://www.square-enix.co.jp/mobile/ff/ff4after/

Now, I admit I am basing my whole assumption on the title alone, but do you think that the story of FFIV can continue at all?

The graphics, strangely enough, are the same 2D graphics as the original SNES Final Fantasy games, and it makes me wonder.

I'm hoping someone can read the Japanese words and give us, or at least me, some insight.

But for now, what do you guys think?

Ah, thank you for the link.

Eh...Does that mean this thread is gonna close :sad2:

Personally any sequel to IV, not that there should be one in the first place!, should be about Kain's journey to 'prove himself' after the first game. I think it's the only thing they could really develop on to be honest but either way its going to be on Mobile only so won't have the chance to play it.

If there IS a sequel I will have to have a hissy fit. i have 9 fucking games that I need to complete at the moment and IV is one of them

I wish Squenix would leave games alone *shakes fist*

Funionist, I've merged your thread with the existing thread. There was already a topic about the FFIV: The After in the Square Enix News Section.

The full title is "Final Fantasy IV: The After - Return to the Moon" (and the award for most totally emo title ever goes to...lol). The main hero is Cecil & Rosa's son...

Final Fantasy IV sequel confirmed for mobiles!
Well, we can all safely say NONE of us saw this one coming! A Final Fantasy 4 sequel... for mobiles!?

You read right folks, Final Fantasy 4: The After - Return to the Moon is a brand new, 'Final Fantasy 4-2' sequel to the original SNES classic. But here's the tricky part - it's a mobile exclusive. And only in Japan at the moment.

Nevertheless, interesting info has been released - the game is a traditional RPG, and is set (obviously) after the original FF4. Players control 'Theodore', a new protagonist that descends from Cecil's bloodline.

The game will be releasing in February 2008 on NTT DoCoMo phones (from the FOMA 903i models and upwards), and then in Spring 2008 for all other WinBrew supported models.

We'll keep you updated once any conrete media (images and/or videos) turn up.

More information on Final Fantasy IV: The After
A major surprise that came out of Jump Festa 2008 was the Final Fantasy IV sequel, which has been explained at last!

Firstly, we can now confirm that Theodore, who we previously called a 'blood descendant' of Cecil, is actually confirmed to be his and Rosa's son! Not only that, but Cecil himself, along with Cid, Kain, Rydia, Edge and Yang will be appearing during the story!

The game itself will be using a very similar graphical engine to the original Final Fantasy 4, and will use a slightly altered ATB system where the enemy's command input can be seen as well.

Seeing as the game is being released exclusively for mobile phones, Square has decided to release the game in episodic format - these episodes will be downloadable from the mobile network, with the prologue episode available free. It is currently unknown how much the other episodes will cost, and how regularly they will be released, but we'll keep you updated.

As for release dates, Final Fantasy 4: The After - Return to the Moon is expected to release to specific Japanese mobile phone models around February, and then further models later in the Spring. We'll keep you updated on whether an English release will happen or not.

I almost get the feeling that they wanted to make a hack of one of their games or else maybe a cell phone company or w/e asked for an exclusive...it still looks cool and I hope eventually they manage to port it...or else I hope there's an emu for that cell & a fan translation...>_>

WHAT? MOBILE EXCLUSIVE?
How frigging charming. That's real nice that is >_>

I can't imagine that they'd go to the trouble of actually making a sequel to one of the classics & keeping it a cell phone exclusive...Maybe after all the episodes are released they'll port it to DS...or maybe just plain remake it onto DS in 3D...Seems like it'd be fairly easy for them to do since they've got most of the 3D models from FFIV DS, right?

This better come out for ds or ps3.

I very much doubt it will =/
SE announced on the 1st August that it had been downloaded a million times, so I guess for a phone title that sounds very successful.

Unfortunately my phone would probably explode if the game was downloaded onto it. Not all of us have awesome phones >_< I wouldn't mind a simple port to the DS. It shouldn't be too hard, right?
