Ok this thread is no longer just about the FF7 girls, but all characters in the series and how they choose to dress. :P So pick any character, provide a picture, and say if you like the outfit, hate the outfit, if it is practical for wandering around the world and fighting monsters in...

Also, this thread is just for fun. Don't take other's comments too seriously. Quite honestly, there's hardly any video game character that wears a practical fighting outfit especially if they are female. XD

Also, we all know that they are just video games. So any arguement that says something along the lines of "Well they are just video game characters, that wouldn't happen" are invalid. :P

So to start out, Final Fantasy VII women...

Am I the only one who thinks that the girls of FF7 really got screwed when it came to clothes? Seriously, I think all three of them together could win the vote of worst dressed Final Fantasy character. So lets look over the three of them.

Aerith

Probably the best dressed of the three. I actually like her outfit on top. The red jacket looks nice and so does the dress... about to her waist. Suddenly it looks like she either tore down the curtains and made her dress out of that, or she went to the nearest thrift shop after feeling cheap. Seriously, what's with that button up thing she has going on?

Tifa

Ugh... what were the designers even thinking when they felt she had to wear this? I am convinced that she and Aerith Shop at the same thrift shop. All together both Aerith and Tifa's outfit must have cost less than one gil. Also, not a good outfit to wear if you are going to work at a bar or do martial arts in.

Yuffie

I don't even know what the hell she is wearing. The white shorts are actually nice but it would be better if she had pants. Then we get to her top. Did she just take a turtle neck sweater and cut it in half and then cut the arms off? And why do so many Final Fantasy characters only have one knee pad or one shoulder pad? Luckily Yuffie's outfit gets much better in Advent Children.

Every Final Fantasy game usually has one girl who's outfit that isn't all that great, but all three? :O

I actually think that out of all the three outfits, Yuffie's outfit looks more normal (aside from the knee and shoulder pad). I'd like to say Aerith, but brown boots and pink dress don't match. Besides, it's not advisable to wear a dress in the midst of battle...

But yes, you're right...terrible terrible fashion design for those poor female characters. =/

I personally think that Aeris is a nut for wearing doc martins and/or uggs with a pink dress...

Aerith's and Tifa's outfits I like. (other than the brown boots that Aerith is wearing) It depends on opinion.

Yuffie, however, is in desperate need of a fashion designer, in my opinion... Her fly's undone, she's wearing long socks, she has a shiriken strap attached her underwear, an odd stocking on one leg and one arm, and another odd object on her arm.

I really like the odd blob of wtf strapped to Yuffie's arm. What doesn't make sense is fishnet on one arm and one leg...and a turtleneck with shorts. Is she having hot flashes? Just eliminating that weird fishnet would be better...

*nah i think they look good just the way they are! :) i mean theyre world is in chaos after all, they got no time to dress all fancy and girly, whats important is mobility and accesability!

*i think Tifa has the hottest costume of all final fantasy girls, simple yet drives the boys wild ahahaha :D

*weeeeeeeeee :D :D

I think Tifa looks good in that, or atleast better than her in this:

Sorry about the bad edit, but I was hurrying.

Oh dear... that scares me Darkmast :O

I can't believe that people actually like Tifa's outift. XD There are girls in tentacle hentai that are dressed better than her. XD

Tifa's outfit is ridiculous for a martial artist. A true martial artist does not run around fighting in a tiny black leather miniskirt and a white tank top either. Aerith's is okay. In the movie the boots looked fine with the dress, but in the original art, it just looks terrible. Yuffie's is a bit strange, but more practical I'd say. Aerith's dress is flexible so I imagine she was probably used to moving around in it so much what with all the running she had to do from the Turks, etc...So all in all, Tifa's is ridiculous for actual fighting, Aerith's is okay, Yuffie's is more practical.

I'd have like it if Tifa's AC clothes were put into the potential remake. 8D
But alas, I'm dreaming.

As Goofy as I think their outfits are...I would cry if they were different in the "remake". =[

They are pretty terrible, but hey, they were designed some time in the mid '90s, and in Japan I'm sure that just spells disaster.

Yeah there's a theme through the FF games where they only get one shoulder pad WTF???

You know, guys, as a rule, video-game characters typically aren't dressed in what you might call practical clothing, even outside of Final Fantasy. Just look at ol' Lloyd up there. He goes to school dressed as though he actually anticipates going on a journey. However, even though it is normal for video-game characters, I do agree that the FF7 girls could probably use some help in the fashion department...Not that I'm qualified to give it, of course.

Except for Tifa. Tifa is perfect just the way she is...which brings me to my next point. I think it's pretty clear that Tifa, Aerith, and Yuffie were all created with fanservice in mind (hell, so were Cloud and Sephiroth, but that's a whole other story). The average fanboy is willing to overlook anything and everything wrong with a female character's attire so long as they find her attractive. So, you see, while the thread certainly raises a good point, I think Nomura might've known from the start that the characters he designed weren't very fashionable by our standards.

I don't mind the outfits so much, it's the horrible boot things they are wearing -
They all look big and clumsy looking & I'd die if someone said I had to wear something like that

And why do so many Final Fantasy characters only have one knee pad or one shoulder pad?

If your in a defensive stance you only give the opponent to strike as little of your body as possible. A possible stance would thereby include your left part of your body, usually with your shoulder/arm as defensive points. (Or right if you're lefthanded.)

Why?
1. You only have to armour that part of the body you don't use to wield. Creating the option to use more flexible moves with your sword arm.
2. If injuried, you will not injury your swordwielding arm, so you can still retaliate any attack.

There could be other tactics for duelwielding thou. (FFIII)

I'm not saying that it has to be practical, I just want their outfits to not look so crappy. Heck Terra probably has the most impractical outfit of all but it at least looks like they didn't spend only a half a minute designing it.
Compare the guys to the girls in FFVII. It looks like time was actually spend in designing Cloud, Barret, Cid and Vincent's attire. With the girls, not so much. Heck, with Tifa and Yuffie, their entire appearnece must have took under a minute since they both look pretty generic.

As for the fanservice, considering how blocky the characters are in the game I don't see how he could be so concerned about fanservice :O

And this thread isn't exactly supposed to be serious ;)

Neither was my post, for the most part. Interpret it how you will, I guess. *shrug* But I was agreeing with you, so...

Anyway, I'd say Yuffie was pretty much the opposite of what I'd expect from a generic ninja. But you're right, their designs probably could've used a bit more work. Yuffie's design was my least favorite, actually. Aerith was...cute, but her clothes weren't exactly groundbreakingly original even as far as JRPG characters go. Honestly, though, I didn't really mind Tifa's attire. She did own a bar, remember. However good-hearted a person she was, I don't think it would've helped business if she dressed like Aerith. That being said, I do think Square took it a bit too far given that she's...well...hardly wearing anything.

When it comes to fanservice, I was referring mainly to concept art, in-battle sprites, and FMV's. How else would Tifa have gotten all those drooling otaku to quite literally worship the polygons she was made out of?

Awe don't worry Oathkeeper I wasn't refering to you. Your post was entertaining. I kind of felt that some people were taking this a bit too seriously. :) Also I just wanted to make it clear to just have fun with the thread in case any rabids wonder in ;)

I think Tifa should have worn something similuar to what the Monk in III wore. Yuffie should have worn her AC outfit and Aerith should have worn what she wore in Crisis Core. XD

Though if I had it my way they all would have been in pants. I'm sure that once I earned over 1 million gil Tifa, Aerith, and Yuffie could have spent it to wear something more fit for traveling in. :P

Maybe I should make a best and worst dressed thread of Final Fantasy in the FF Fun section...

Well, obviously, the best dressed Final Fantasy character would be Kuja. I mean, come on, there's just no competition. Tifa and Terra are nice, but Kuja is one sexy bitch...wait...

Anyway...yes, in an ideal world, Tifa, Aerith, and Yuffie would be wearing things that...you know...actual people might wear in a given situation. But, as I'm sure you know, this isn't an ideal world we're dealing with. No, this is a world in which Tetsuya Nomura is the character designer. So, alas, such is but wishful thinking, because Nomura has some sort of zipper/belt fetish.
