In every Final Fantasy, there is always one character that the game just wouldn't be worth playing without that character in it. In your opinion, what character(s) are the most epic ones. They impacted the story greatly, whenever in their presence you just felt that no damn ruby dragon could kill you. They should go into the story books as legends.

I pick Auron. Final Fantasy X was by no way my favorite game, but I just feel that Auron had that sence about him that made him powerful.

I agree with that, Auron really did carry that game. I liked the game as a whole, but Auron really did have the edge on the other characters.

Usually I would say something along the lines of Vincent Is A God, but actually for FFVII I'm going to credit Cid. Imagine FFVII without Cid!! Unthinkable *shudders*, he really brought some light to the game where otherwise there would just be doom and gloom. Also Reno for that same reason, he was a great bad/good guy.

I'm playing FFVIII at the moment and I think the only thing keeping me from packing it in is Zell. Far from "epic", but just because he has so much energy and though he should be really annoying, he is a good counterbalance to Squall's dark moody character. Yaya for Zell!!!

FFVII - Cloud
FFVIII - Squall
FFIX - Freya
FFX - Auron
FFXII - Basch
FF Tactics - Orlandu

I don't really wanna say any of the main characters because well, im guessing tehre wouldn't have been a game without them lol

It's most definately Auron in X - he just held the entire story together & he had the sexist voice ever

VII would have to be Aeris with the whole Ancient thing going on

VIII - Rinoa because well, im just a girl and i loved the whole romance theme xD

XII - Balthier because he was the only one who really had an interesting backstory (again a sexy voice)
Dr Cid was also the only one who had an interesting story (and sexy voice) It makes me wonder why Balthier wasn't the main character really it's like who the f*** is Vaan?!

FFVII- This is a tough one. Needless to say, Final Fantasy VII just wouldn't be the same without Cloud Strife, but Sephiroth just added so much to the game's impact. Whereas Cloud raised the bar for JRPG protagonists, Sephiroth definitely gave new life to the role of antagonist (before the Compilation ruined both of them). However, even though the two of them were incredibly influential and made the story much more dynamic, I'm going to say Aerith was the crux of this game's emotional impact. Think about it. What's the most hard-hitting scene in the whole game? Most people would say it's Aerith's death. Though she's only around for about 1/3 of the game, her character added so much to the original script.

FFVIII- Squall and Seifer's rivalry added a lot to this game. In fact, Squall, Rinoa, and Seifer were the only characters to get any real development beyond the second Disc. However, I must admit that the execution was certainly there when it comes to those three. The two complemented each other well when it came to raw skill and power, making for an exciting duel at the end of Disc 1. Their increasingly bitter rivalry added emotional dynamics, whereas the fact that he knew Rinoa helped incorporate a bit of romantic tension.

FFIX- I'd say that this game really doesn't have any defining characters. It's true that Zidane and Kuja were probably the most influential, considering they were the protagonist and antagonist, respectively. However, this game manages to provide a cast of memorable characters worth playing as. I think I could've done without Quina, though, considering just how little s/he actually does over the course of the game. Really, what's Quina do other than find the Fossil Roo? So, other than Quina, I'd say this game has an all-around nice cast. They work well together and it's interesting to see them interact.

FFX- This would be Auron for...no real reason. He was just pretty damn cool. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Tidus and Yuna, they just don't really stick out to me as being quite as interesting as Auron. There's not much else to say, really. Auron is just...cool.

FFXII- I didn't get too far into this one yet (I only recently got my hands on it), but I'm going to have to say Balthier or Basch. Again, I don't mind Vaan, I just don't know why they decided to make him the main character. He should've been a supporting character, if you ask me, with either of the two aforementioned characters as lead protagonist. Vaan, though good enough as a character, just doesn't have as compelling a story as Basch or Balthier. The plot doesn't really focus as much on him, in other words.

Who says Basch? O.O He made me feel weak, so I tried to use him the least. But in XII, I'd have to say Fran. She would always save me, because I'd always play as Vaan. (The ranged attackers in that game seemed useless to play as. Click a monster, shoot, it dies.)

Haven't played X yet, but when I do get it, I'll tell you clearly. For the moment, I would guess Auron, judging by how people rate him as the known character in every game. "The Serious, Silent, SO GONNA EFFIN KILL YA!" character.

LOL I am in that exact same situation.. Basch is my least leveled character right now--I RARELY use him.. Fran and Ashe, however, are my best favorite characters to use..

Meh...I can't say I particularly liked Basch, I'm just saying that he would've made a better main character than Vaan. Really, how is he the focus of the game's story? Basch receives much more attention as far as the plot is concerned.

I'll go back in time slighty...:P

FF IV - Cecil because of his fundamental change. He was consumed by darkness, deception, greed etc. until he decided to become a paladin and fight in the name of good.

FF VI - King Figaro because he was hillarious and downright kick butt fighter. Despite being a King, he acted very un king like and was quite the womanizer :D

FF VII - Nanaki because of his character design and his culture. I personally loved that scene where he walks up that cliff to see his father petrified at the peak. Very touching. I always have deep respect for First Nations cultures and seeing FF VII without Nanaki would make the game a little more sterile IMO.

FF IX - Vivi. Let's face it. He was innocent and kinda adorable but being a black mage, he could still pack a wallop. It was that innocence and discovery of the fake black mages that really made me respect him.

FF X - I was going to say Tidus (because literally the story can't function without him) but I'd have to say Auron because of what he stood for. At first he came off as a man of mystery who just sends Tidus to Spira but as the plot develops you can really see that he's a brilliant, strong, capable person. He doesn't sugar coat anything because he speaks from experience. I love the contrast from what he was to what he became. And finding out he was an unsent wasn't a huge surprise (he refused to enter the farplane back in Guadosalam) but when he told Yuna not to stop sending him, I couldn't help but say "You're the man".

FF XII - Balthier by far because he had what the other characters didn't have. Charisma and a decent backstory. It got to the point where I stopped caring about what happened to the characters except for Balthier. Once Cid was defeated, I kinda lost interest but it was close to the ending so I played the game through :)

FFIV - Kain. Don't need to explain this one.
FFVI - Kefka. The laugh. The evilness. The hilarious quotes. He MADE FFVI can awesome game.
FFVII - Scarlet. That bitch-slapping scene with Tifa was GOLDEN.
FFVIII - Quistis. Without Quistis, the gorup wouldn't have had an older sister to be their guide. Plus, that scene where she pumped X-ATM092 full of lead was awesome.
FFIX - Kuja. When I think FFIX, I think Kuja. Right away.
FFX - Auron. Everything's been already mentioned.
FFXII - Balthier. He ws the leading man, after all.

Time to go waaaaayy back!

FF1 - Warrior, without whom you would have your ass handed to you. Period.
FF2 - That dragoon; I cant remember his name. You only had him for a little while, but he was super-powerful and had the coolest costume.
FF3 - Desch. He was a temporary character who followed you around for a while, and would occasionally pop into battle and kill EVERYTHING. And he was just awesome.
FF4 - Palom & Porom. They were just funny...
FF5 - INSIGNIFICANT!! (A great game, but very little character development)
FF6 - Edgar, because you just love seeing him fly around the screen with that chainsaw and
umaro, because he's a freaking yeti.
FF7 - I've only seen the movie, so I'd have to say Reno and Rude, simply for that scene where they're on the bridge with the dynamite near the end.

cloud in 7

cloud is so strong friends would die with out him plus hes just simply rocks

FFVI: Kefka, mos def. He probably had the most personality in that game, and ranks in the top tier of all FFs for most humor and all that. I just love him. :)
FFVII: I love Yuffie. :D Although she's not epic in comparison to Cloud and Sephiroth and the other characters fanboys drool over, she's epic in her own right. Her obsession with materia and quirky attitude just made her lovable, and she was simply mischievous. I wish she got more face time. :|
FFVIII: ZELL! Ah, I love him too much. He reminds me of that cliche kid in movies who gets picked on in the beginning, but by the end is strong and independent and confident. That definitely happened because of his relationship with Seifer, then his rising to the occasion towards the end to help his friends.
FFIX: Vivi is pretty epic. His backstory with the black mages is just sad, and he deals with his own trauma in that. One of the most lovable characters, strong, cute, loyal. Pretty suhweet.
FFX: Well I thought they were all epic, but if I had to choose one, I guess I'd choose Rikku. I loved her relationship with Wakka, her relationship with Cid, her witty quotes, her bouncy nature. Kind of like Yuffie, only way cooler and way more helpful. The Home scenes and the Yevon scenes made me appreciate her a lot.
FFXII: None of them are epic. But Balthier and Fran were pretty awesome. Suave, debonair, and smooth. Gotta love the sky pirates.

FFVII - Tseng
FFVIII - Laguna
FFIX - Beatrix
FFX - Auron. The first FF character I cried for :/
FFXII - Want a list? Screw Balthier. He wasn't the only character with a backstory. Characters anyway: Basch, Judges, Vaan, Dr. Cid, Reddas - I could say a few more! It sucks that Balthiers gorgeous. >.>

That my dear is why he is an epic character :wacky:

I would like to add Gabranth to my list though, what with all the deception and shizz. I thought he was pretty darn nifty

FFIII ~ It's hard to choose just one character >_< Probably Arc because he had the most character development, or Unei/Doga because they really pushed the plot along. Also, the latter two were ownage. Magus and Devout that handed my ass too me a fair few times. When they are guests in your party, Holy or Flare just freaking owns.

FFVII ~ Hmmm ... I've only gotten to the Temple of the Ancients, but so far I'd have to say Aerith. Her relationship with the party, her backstory and Limit Breaks make me think she's an epic character.

FFIX ~ Again, hard to choose a single character. Either Zidane, Kuja, Garnet or Vivi. All of them are epic story-wise, and they're pretty epic powerwise, the only exception being Garnet ... but they're all so brilliant! Gah.

(EDIT: How the fook could I forget Beatrix? She was also an epicly epic character)

FFX ~ This one is easy. Yuna. She really brought the game to life for me and carried the story more than Auron ever could >_<

FFXII ~ Balthier and Fran. Personality, backstory and pure awesomeness. These two have some ownage-looking Quickenings, despite some of them looking a bit lackluster.

I actually think, that in Final Fantasy IX, Garnet was more of an epic character than Zidane. Perhaps if the game took place on Terra, then fine...Zidane would have had a more central role...but FFIX takes place on Gaia, and the events that happen in the game are all centered around Gaia's politics, Gaia's inhabitants, and Gaia's struggle to survive. The events revolving around Terra (though very important), are minute compared to the events that occur on Gaia. Maybe that's not the case in the bigger picture, but it is so the case in the events of the game...

Though I'm not a Rinoa fan...if it weren't for Rinoa, then the game would have probably had...well...a totally different story line?
Remember when
Ultimecia leaves Edea's body in Galbadia and enters Rinoa's, causing her to go into a coma? What if Rinoa wasn't there...maybe Selphie would have been possessed.
Maybe I should be greatful for Rinoa after all. XD

You have to remember that Kuja was the one manipulating Gaia's politics, the one who is the cause of death for so many Gaia inhabitants, and the reason that they're struggling to survive.

If Garland had gotten his way, that would have been Zidane destroying Gaia and wreaking havoc.

I think that they're all on a par with each other.
