What criteria is needed for an Aeon to be a final 1? Defeating Sin, the bond, Yunalesca? Is Anima a final Aeon?

^^ That link basically says that someone close to the summoner sacrifices themself to transform into the Final Aeon for that summoner.

The process takes both the summoner and the sacrificed lives, and it's usually a guardian or a lover (aka someone with a personal bond) that transforms with the summoner. Yunalesca had her lover (forget the name). Braska had one of his guardians Jecht.

Which is spot on. That's why the summoners never returned after their pilgrimage. Mind you, i thought the reason was that the final Aeon killed the summoner but after thinking on it, the fusion kinda made more sense.
