Those migrating from FFXI will know exactly what I mean.

What are everybody's thoughts on FFIV being more solo-based, or balanced? If you guys can remember being a warrior, samurai or darkknight in FFXI, then you probably remember waiting 5 hours for a party invite.

I'm kind of hoping they make FFIV more solo-based without sacrificing the rewarding big boss fights where an alliance is required, but also enables its players to be able to play alone. I'm remember 80% of the bards in FFXI were only bards because of the frequent party invites. That shouldn't be case I think.

What are you guys' oppinions on this?

Oh - you're on about Final Fantasy XIV. IV is 4, so that confused me slightly until I looked at the name of this forums section.

I haven't played FFXI before, so I guess I don't fully know how rewarding the alliance battles and quests are. But I'd say that there should be a good balance of solo and group-based gameplay. The ability to play solo will be good for people who wouldn't want to get into a group. I'd say be able to solo the game is more accessible.

SE shouldn't sacrifice the group aspect though. I don't think they have. I'd say a good balance would suit everyone if possible.

I just realized the title.. meant FFXIV lol. I played FFXI about 7 years ago, had barely to do then, highschool and that was it. I remember having to put in ridiculous time to level up since you had to assemble a group, so I'd hope they fixed that aspect of it.

Thanks for the headsup in the tittle haha

I'm never good in parties in FF XI, so this more solo friendly approach to XIV is blessing. I always love soloplay for some odd reason, but love the fact that I'm interacting with tons of people...I just don't party with them.

soloing FF XI is a pain in the butt, so I'm ready for FF XIV

ffxi has implemented alot more solo features but mainly when you did solo was quite frankly a tad...boring. especially for me being a galka blm and my lolmp pool :P im quite looking forward to see what they do with this aspect of the game tho seeing as i can then solo in work and play with friends when i get home it could be good for me :D

lol omg thats why i never took them jobs past 37 but i remember my friend was monk and would wait like 5 hours to get a pt and i was rdm and nin so i would be in a pt and get invites so when i got to my friends lvl then he could get pt cuz i wouldnt join one if they didnt take him too but i hope that you will be able to solo but be in a pt also for some things but if you have to then go solo till you can get a pt or something but i think they are goin to most def fix that prob where you have to look for a pt for hours cant wait to see how good ffxiv is goin to be

I love the idea of FFXIV being more solo based than XI was. I thought XI was great but hated having to be in parties so early in the game. If more solo goes into this game then I am sold for sure. Also I hope they keep the lack of PvP, since I get tired of that stuff pretty fast. Or at least have a server dedicated to just PvP.

Well I have heard about how difficult it could be at times to get a group in FFXI so if XIV is more solo friendly that would be a good thing. I am okay with either solo or group, but if it is at an odd time or not much going on in way of grouping, it will be nice to be able to still be productive going solo.

I definitely wasn't the biggest fan of FFXI. MMORPGs aren't really my thing and the game suffered from pretty lame gameplay (I thought). I honestly would like to give FF14 a try... but I have yet to be truly impressed by an FF game since FFX, yet alone an online game. I'll probably wait for some reviews.

Im honestly debating goign to play an MMO based off of final fantasy. Since final fantasy was a single-player game.

More solo based? I certainly do not hope so.
Think the main reason to play a MMORPG is to interact with other people and together beat challenges the developer throws at us players.

I played FFXI for years, before it supposedly was "eased up" and i never had major issues with the group focus of the game, i actually enjoyed it.

To be honest i don't really understand why anyone should ->wait<- hours for a party. Sure in the beginning it can be hard sometimes to form a balanced party. You don't know many people and not familiar with all the do and donts. But when you play longer it should not be that hard.
After some time you'll start to make friends team up with them regularly and join a LS. Personally it generally didn't took me more then 30-45 mins to get a 6 player party together. Talking to my friends and LS and parties form pretty fast.
It might be problematic if you have a bad reputation though ;)

And there were other things you could do solo when you don't feel like party or don't have the time for it.

I surely hope FFIV doesn't follow AoC when it comes to solo gameplay...
You could solo pretty much everything which meant people dot feel like team up. The times that i did try to form a party the replies i got were something like; "go to zone X level there till level Y and come back to solo this part"
98% of the time i spend playing AoC it felt like i was playing a single player RPG which happened to have an in game shout box. Up to the end game raids there was close to zero human interaction simply because there was no need for it to progress in the game.

So for me party game play must be the core business of FFIV.

Open Arms

I played FFXI for 5 years, and was tired of either waiting excrutiatingly long periods for a PT invite, or soloing for minimal XP.
REALLY looking forward to a game with better solo play for all classes, and not a few classes (Beastmaster etc) designed for solo play.
I like the graphics, storyline, depth of missions & quests, music...
I played WoW-toon., Eve-Online etc.
I wish there was a way to have one server like Eve, but welcome the more mature audience.
Love ya all!

this game is most definitely not more solo based

some of the enemies are virtually impossible to beat as a single player, and many abilities are designed to enhance parties

not to mention the regimen system which people are still trying to understand

As far as the beta, soloing is a better choice than grouping. But as Square Enix has made obvious, they are trying to make this game appeal to both, Solo-ers and Party-ers.

As long as it turns out how I think it will, I'll appreciate the times I can solo and then later group with friends for events or NMs (or the equivalent)

All I can say for sure is we'll see 9/22 for some and 9/30 for most. :D

I tried my first lv 30 guildleve today. I absolutely got flattened, but I'm hoping that before the beta ends our entire guildleve can organize and team up to beat the mission. Guildleves that can do this will get higher tier equipment much earlier than any solo player can.
