FFIII - i'm a little rusty

so i got final fantasy III for my ds and haven't played an FF game for years now, anyway i have to shrink down my party before i go into the the town of tazus. i'm sure it's something very simple to do but i just can't figure it out, how do i cast mini on my party?
 
you get the spell mini from a chest earlier or from the gnome in the cave. Then you cast mini on your party.
 
Savvys right. After your encounter with Bahamut, Owen gives you the Mini spell.

Simply use the Mini spell item on the character who needs to learn it then open the spells window in the menu screen for that character and chose Mini onto your party. simple. Thing is regular attacks don't do much (or hardly any!) damage to the enemies you have to fight whilst in Mini status, only magic works! I find this a highly annoying part of the game unless you have an all Black or Red Mage team at the time.
