Since I've done several mergers...let me give you a few pointers per say.

1. If you are going to take that database and convert it to vBulletin, then try to place it on here...you won't be able too. The forumIDs as well as post IDs will not coorespond. Unless you sit there and rename ever single post number, usernumber with the post, userID's, redo the group names, etc. you might as well just tell them to join here and post here. Give them the positions here. That's it.

2. The staff over there does seem friendly (I took a look around). And the staff here are good too. Remember, for this size of this forum, you will have to many staff members. All I hope to tell you is that you need to really think about this. I would say go for it, because it does usually yield a high post count and better, more quality members in the long run, but I hope both sides of the table will contribute, rather than sit there and hope something will be done.

3. You will have four administrators with different views. This is where it would be best to make another Staff forum (If you don't have one already) so you can sort out your views and other ideas about this forum.

4. RPG Hack. Since you have that set up here and don't on the other database (This goes with number one as well) you can't merge it over unless you plan on altering every table in that other database to match this one. But I don't think it will happen.

So the best bet...tell everyone on that other board to just join here and then give them the staff position. Joey (Dr. J) and Chris (Shadow24) will know who's their staff and who wasn't. This would be the best way to merge. As I said, I have done it. (FInal Fantasy Holy and Square Reality (my site) done it. FF Empires and Square Chronicles and my forums have merged.)

You seem to know what you're talking about. However, with your idea, it doesn't seem like much would change. Just a large number of members joining at one time if you ask me.

Just a question: what exactly would happen in the merger, should it happen? How would the forums themsleves be kept, how does everything come together?

Maybe you can do something such as when a new member visits the other FFF, they will automatically be re-directed here, or something like that.

Will this FFF change? WIll it look different? Will threads from the other site appear and would some of our thread dissapear? What about post count?
I would apreciate if someone answer these questions for me.

That's all that you can really do..unless you really know mySQL and how to manipulate it. I am learning, but it takes ages.

Neat idea! I'm totally with it. And like the other dude said, the RPG system would be great + on those site(s). I, too, have one FF based forum, but I might need more members there and help me of what threads I should add ect. but that's about it. This doesn't consider my forum in anyway but i just wanted to say it at least. heh.

In other words, sure. I definately agree this merging thing. :)

Seems we have enough votes, don't you think it's about time we closed this?

Judging by the number of votes and positive feed-back, is it safe to say that the merger will be going ahead?

Might I suggest keeping this thread open so that we can check back and read up on the latest news concerning the merger. Maybe information on how this affects us as members, what will be different, etc etc.

By merge, they mean joining together the two seperate forums into one large forum. It will bring together all aspects of each forum, where similar aspects are met, compromises will be made.

Someone feel free to add or correct me.

You can but it sometimes require a lot of work. In this case it could take a long time unless Joey gives the database to someone that can do it quickly.

And that person will have to have EXTENSIVE knowledge of mySQL.

Well it seems the merge may or may not happen.
I am sure some cogs are moving.

It is apparent there may be some problems but such things can be worked out.
Staff being one of them and topics being another.

All we can do is hope for the best.

Hey I am from the other FFForums and we are workin on ways of transfering. We are still unsure whether we are gonna transfer or not. But I am thinking there is a chance. :D

as you said their activity is low. so why merge? it might just hurt us.

why not just tell them to join ours =]

we dont need lots of inactive users and such.

technically i dont know how this is possible i guess combining databases which woudl be awkward and i think it might just cause problems.

just tell them to join our site, the active ones will contribute and their site is kinda dead already anyway.
