FF7 bad parts

Can anybody who has played FF7 tell me if there is a single moment in it which is not superb?

The flashback sequence in Kalm. And when Tifa & Cloud both end up in the life streaam...the flashback scene more though, it just goes on and on and on, and when you've played the game a million times before it just gets old. Oh for there to be a skip option...first time, awesome..... but that's about it. IT DRAGS ON FOR LIKE AN HOUR :rage:

Honestly, it's a good job you could have breaks between it. I LOATHED the flashback scene so much :gonk: almost as much as the Temple of the Ancients and the Gold Saucer Prison :jtc:

There was only one break offered :gonk:

I never took it, I just soldiered on to get it out of the way, and by that break you're about 10 minutes away from heading on your way anyway :rage:

I do like how Red says 'what a facinating story' or something along those lines...I think yeah, just because you don't remember that we hae ran through this part a million times before :gonk:

I think people might hate it more because so many of us have played it a hundred times. That, and it does take some time to get through. I thought the Kalm flashback was necessary to understand the first questions people had about the story. Why did Cloud join SOLDIER, what does he have against Sephiroth, what's so evil and frightening about Sephiroth in the first place? And little tidbits on Jenova too.

I mean, it has two of the most memorable scenes in the game, exempting probably Aerith when she meets Sephiroth for the 'last time.' It had the classic scene of Sephiroth going through the fire and him looking nuts, tearing off the metal construct to Jenova. Awesome.

While it is annoying after you've played it once, I think its a very important and necessary thing to do. Even though it is pretty long winded.

As for Cloud and Tifa in the lifestream...I loved that part! I thought it was one of the best parts in the movie since all of Cloud's fragmented thoughts and weird behavior is FINALLY explained to the fullest. Although, I was a bit younger with an undeveloped brain when I played that part. I had no idea what was going on. I was like, "OMFG GIANT FLOATING CLOUD HEAD!!?"

I actually haven't played through that part since the first time. I switch between games so much I don't end up getting all that far in any of them. It's a curse. I'm replaying the game again, so maybe when I get there I'll understand some things slightly better.

One final note. Temple of the Ancients made no sense to me. I'll have to replay that part too, because I don't remember what was so vital about it. Black Materia? Then Cait Sith sacrificing himself (yay?) more shrinking than putting wool in the wash...and then Cait Sith is back, totally negating any emotional impact it might have had. Pretty bad overall. At least I got Aerith's final weapon. >_<

Parts of FFVII I don't like that I can think of off the top of my head are anything with Cait Sith in it, the Gold Saucer Prison, and that part in the Lifestream, that whole thing is a whole lot of insane nonsense to be honest. :/

And I just don't like Cait Sith, so I don't want to have the character forced into being a part of the story very much, it is just annoying and irritating... >_< Like in the Advent Children movies and Dirge of Cerberus.

The parts I don't like are just a few dungeons that I think are tedious, but pretty much every RPG has those. (I hate Temple of the Ancients. So much.)

OH YES! I loathe the Temple of Ancients. Its just so tedious (sp??) As you said every RPG has them, but this one just drives me bleeding mad :neomon: Its just so bleh and feels me with dread when Im approaching the temple. Le sigh.

I can honestly say there is not one part of this game that is bad for me. This game made such a impact on my gaming views that whenever I do play it, it just makes me feel better. Mostly because it was the first FF I had played (besides Mystic Quest) and it was the game that got me interested in RPGs in general.

Here are a few bad/sad moments that come to mind.
  • Immediately after you've escaped Midgar and reach the first town there's a long flashback Cloud has. It lasts so long; I think the game even gives you an option to save halfway through. That's one of my worst bits of the game for me, because it just drags on way beyond what is comfortable.
  • Fighting the Demon Gate for a bleakless several hours on my first playthrough and being killed 200 times until eventually giving up and asking a friend to transfer his game save over to my memory card.
  • When Red XIII's grandfather dies. *Sob*
  • When Yuffie stole all my materia and left me pretty much defenceless.
  • That stupid sparing mini-game in the Gold Saucer. Makes no sense.
That's all I can think of. The game was faultless.

2 parts i hate

1. The Kalm flashback, just so long and boring. After the excitement of Midgar and leaving there, this really dragged everything down for a bit.

2. Temple of the Ancients. Didnt like the layout of the temple. Didnt like the long cutscene before the Dragon fight, Didn't like the Demon Wall fight, Didnt like it all really.

  • That stupid sparing mini-game in the Gold Saucer. Makes no sense.

LOL! I hated that freaking visual rock-paper-scissors. Damn that game. I was always like "This time...", but that afro dude was so ridiculous. Uggghh. I don't know if I can say it was a "bad" part as it was just some opt mini game, but man it was frustrating.

definitely the Kalm flashback for me. Because normally in a game with a scene that long, i'd walk about my room doing something else. But no, I had to sit and press the bloody x button the whole way through and had to wait for the transitions between the present and past.
painful.
