The first time I played FF4 I got stuck at two points.
The end boss and the first batle with Cecil as a palidon (is that right?) against the dark knight.

Those bosses seemed crazyily powerful when I played the ps1 version of the game. I was stuck at the mountain for ages trying to defeat the dark knight, i even had to resort to items such as hermes sandels (?) to beat him. Then the last was like ARRRGGGHHHH and I died for seconds later....

I managed to defeat him only after my average lvl was above 75. In the others I have no trouble with the end boss.

I am currently playing FF4 again but GBA version. I managed to defeat dark knight easily ... not at the end yet though.

Did anyone else have these troubles or was it just a faulty ps1 disc?

To beat Cecil's dark knight form all you need to do is sheathe your Legend sword, as for the last boss, I can't comment on that but isn't the point of a game to have a challenging final boss?

No this guy was crazy man ....

I died after like one attack, and I wasn't new to FF when I played it. I could barely attack. I only just managed to win as well, I'm pretty life was nearly gone

You mean Zeromus? Since I am not up to him yet my advice would be to build up Rosa, from what I have read about Zeromus she will be kept busy with healing. Also, if you have been working on obtaining summons then building up Rydia is a definite must, especially if you have leviathan and bahamut. And Cecil/Kain and Edge will be busy with attacking, Edge should throw weapons, Cecil can attack and Kain can jump unless he gets too weak and needs healing.

I have never faced him so correct me if I am wrong on characters.

Nah ya characters were right....

I think the prob I had was that Rydia's spells took so long to do (i remember dying just because I tried using ultima)

Didn't have all the summons either ...

Rosa was healing all the time when I managed to defeat him.

How much HP did PS1 Zeromus take off your characters with Big Bang? 2000-3000? Assuming those are the figures, then Cecil, Kain, Edge and maybe Rosa shouldn't really be wiped out after a single attack provided that they're level 50 or above. Also, having a man down isn't such a bad thing when Rosa can heal for more and the dmg dealt from Zeromus's Big Bang remains the same regardless. So long as you've obtained all their ultimate weapons and armours, Zeromus shouldn't be too hard to handle I wouldn't imagine.

One thing I have to say though is that the original Japanese version of FFIV was harder than the GBA version: -
- Sylvan Cave is infested with Marlboros in the original, whereas wimpy witchs and toads take over in FFIV Advance.
- In the Sealed Cave, I seem to always have one character die after opening a trap door in the original, not so in the latest version.
- Demon Wall was A LOT HARDER.

The hardest boss I thought was the Demon Wall. He didn't hit hard but he hit fast and then he just started KO'ing my characters. it took me about 4 tries to finally kill it.

Maybe mine was just a glitchy version then cos I only started fighting after I was over LVL 60 or 65 (can't remember but I know I had to Lvl up heaps). And he was doing very high damage with big bang.

Can't reemember Demon wall....

Its also better if you change Kain for Yang, and put him in backrow since his defense is low. Why Yang? Cause his Power command deals two times more damage which is stronger than Kain's Jump.

I am nearly at the end, at the moon now.

Powered leveled at bahamuts cave for two hours, Edge lvl up nearly 15 times. Should get to final battle soon to see if it is the same ...

Me finished the gba version now

that was so easy the last boss.

I think the ps1 version must be a lot harder then, any one know if this a fact?

Actually the Snes version was hardest. I played it on my PSP and I noticed Cecil doesn't get Dark spell. It makes him pretty useless until he becomes a paladin.

I found that FFIV for GBA was really easy. I was able to get all my Characters to level 99 with max exp and I also got 12 billion gil.

I never played the snes version, Gabranth.
But I read somewhere that there was suppose to be a hard version, maybe its on that.

Gee, never touched the SNES version before... Thought the game was pretty average in difficulty.. :|

I remember the demon wall and trap doors on the SNES version being abnormally difficult considering my character's levels.

As for the final battle, what everyone suggested is good advice. It's an old game and thus fairly formulaic since he character has a specific ability. When Rosa wasn't healing, I got her to cast holy.
