ff11 vs ff14

In my humble opinion... I think you're going to find a lot more joy out of FFXIV.

It's been a few months now, but my brother and I played XI together for about a month or two. Having played a bit of FFXIV myself I can honestly say I was ready to uninstall FFXI within the first 2 days of this game, I really, really hated it. Thankfully we had a lot of help from some of the regulars who have been playing since the beginning, and because of them I think it was the only way we got through what story we did get through. If you're going to attempt any one of these, I can't stress enough how much more I think you'll enjoy FFXIV, and my deepest respect for those of you who played and enjoyed FFXI for what it is. I definitely only scratched the surface of this game, and I can maybe say I did enjoy a little of this game by the time we reached the end of our subscription, but I have no real intentions of ever going back.

For some perspective, FFXI isn't very newbie-friendly, not compared to FFXIV anyway. You'll absolutely need a guide to get through this, and maybe a beer or seven. FFXIV's Graphics are of course significantly better. and you've got a lot more options for which race you want to be. That, and, you're probably more easily going to find help in FFXIV than you would for FFXI. I just can't imagine anyone wanting to pick up FFXI for the first time if only to say that they at least attempted it.

:lew: Sorry if I offended any FFXI lovers out there. Maybe you can give some more perspective, but respectfully it's just not my game.

To quote myself,
XI was an amazing game in it's day, whereas I would only call XIV "good". It's like classic cars vs modern ones though. The classics are beautiful and romantic, but in reality the modern ones are superior in every way.

FFXI is very much a product of its time. It was very fun when it first came out but once World of Warcraft proved what heights an MMO could reach, FFXI was never the same. FF XIV is the obvious answer to that and with its existence there is no reason, in my opinion, to ever go back to FFXI. Especially not for a monthly subscription...lol.

Honestly, with SquareEnix making an offline version of Dragon Quest X...that's the move they should make for FF XI as well.

agreed, i will start, if ever, ff14 ofc. ff11 being outdated and still costing monthly money, not understandable.
i think my graphic card can directx 11 either
i have windows 10 with 64 bit

I thought I’d posted this already… Turns out I'd saved my post as a draft in a document and never sent it.

I didn’t play much Final Fantasy XI. I found the gameplay more challenging at the time I played it. Before they made the game easier you used to have to spend an entire day gathering a party just to smack some crabs to level up at a relatively early level. Sometimes I’d wait for hours for a party only for someone to need to go to bed/have dinner after five minutes of actual fighting, meaning we’d need to wait for a replacement or disband the party. It was too time consuming at the time. It isn’t so harsh these days, but I’m not sure when I’ll get the time to go back to it.

But the lore is very fascinating and there is some really useful details in FFXI for my mythology manuals (including some concepts which have been explored again in different ways in FFXIV since). I've familiarised myself with the plot by watching playthroughs on YouTube (Korvana in particular).

But the translation, I think, might have obscured some of the clarity of the plot for FFXI. It has a reputation of being hard to follow, self-contradictory at times, and having researched it myself I did find some of it quite confusing, forcing me to watch scenes again and again to be sure I got the meaning right before basing an entire section on a particular interpretation of something. Again, I suspect much of this might be a translation issue. Not calling it bad, but just calling it unclear in some points.

FFXIV doesn’t have any of those issues. It has deep lore/myth stuff at the same time as being understandable, and VERY interesting. The localisation team are very much on the ball, in the know, and actively involved with things. The entire FFXIV team have not held back with their ideas at all.

The storylines and characters in FFXIV are also excellent. Few FF games have hit me quite as hard in ‘the feels’ in the way FFXIV has. After Shadowbringers and Endwalker, these characters actually truly mean something to me in the deepest way possible.

So if you have already decided to play FFXIV, I think that is a good choice. For sure, you may enjoy FFXI too, but FFXIV is definitely something special (particularly once you make it past A Realm Reborn).
