i recently just got a ps3
and the only ff game i dont have is XI
so i couldn't play it on my slim ps2
but if i get FF XI can i play it on my ps3?

you do know FFXI is played on the internetz dont you?

I think it'd be easier to just download a PS1 one emulator so that you can just pop in your PS1 games into your computer and play them.

It works, though I've not personally tested it with FFXI, I've tested Phantasy Star Universe, for what good it was. If you've played a lot of PS2 games on the PS3, you'll find similar faults with the online play, though most of that seems to have cleared up now.

Really, its a case of trial and error at the moment with the back catalogue, either it works, or it doesn't!

That's one thing I'm not too happy about with PS3....
I WANT TO PLAY VIII AGAIN!! dammit.....
oh well. Will be buying XI today so we'll see

of course you can, ALL PS3 models play PS1 games, including the B/C-less 40Gb PS3, it still has it's PS1 emulator on board, i found that out by accident when i saw the virtual PS1 memory card option on game data, i tried FFIX and lo and behold, it worked.

I didn't say none of them worked - mine's the 60gb model and I can still play VI,VII & IX (ps1) as well as X and XII (ps2)...
it's just VIII that won't work now. on a side note, was getting ready to go to GAME to buy XI, but thought "hmm, better phone to check they have it". guy who answered said he "hasn't seen XI around in a long time"...
GGAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

That's odd, there are quite a few starter packs floating around the electronics stores this side, maybe it's because NZ is behind the times, but that's a good thing in this case .

EDIT: Those may be PC versions on second thought.

So wait? There are only certain PS3 models that will play PS1 games? Or can all PS3 models available right now play them?

can not play ffxi on PS3

i just bought a ps3 80 gb model, and i downloaded the add on for ps2 hdd software, but i still cant play the disk to download the game. it says that my model doesnt support the ps2 software. any way around this?

Unfortunately, the only way I can think of is to install your own emulator. The 60 gb model is the only one I know that plays FFXI.

wWhat is it with this 60gb model that is the only one that can DO seemingly everything, yet it GOT DISCONTINUED :gasp:

It really annoys me

I'd consider playing XI if I could get it on the PS3, I have it for the pc, but for various reasons, pc gaming is not for me, so after about 15 minutes I gave up on it. Plus I can't keep up with all the expansions and things, I wouldnt know where to start now

Anyway, if XI is still even alive, I think it would be a good move to have it on the PS3. I dont have, and never will have, a 360. Unless I get rich on the ;lottery this evening. -__-

I had heard they were planning on making a FFXI compatible with the PS3 but that was a year ago. I'm assuming they probably scrapped the idea because of how long the game has been out and the fact that it's shelf life is coming to an end.

Unfortunately, the game is seemingly dying fast. Before, I could log on and do /search all Z and I would get hundreds of players starting with the letter Z. I logged on with my trail and did that and got 0 results. It went from thousands upon thousands of people on the server, to almost dead.

That's where knowledgable people come in :gee:.

I'd always be willing ot help you learning your way around if you gave it another chance :monster:

i have the 60gb, so i can play XI on it, which is pretty sweet :) i'm Eldra in Bahamut if anyone ever wants to play

Does FFXI have a monthly fee associated with it like most other MMOs? The fee is the only reason I don't play most MMOs, and it is why I do play Guild Wars.

Keep on topic please, if you look around the threads you ould find it out

And unfortunately, yes it does
