I don't know if this has been asked elsewhere (apologies if that's the case).
But I wonder what people generally think is the most imaginative, original and interesting fictional world created for a Final Fantasy game.

I've never seen this asked before so I'm wondering how people feel. Maybe give a top 3 with brief explanations.

Mine:

3-FF12 - I really didn't enjoy the game that much. Mostly because I just couldn't force myself to care about the characters. They could've been Nintendo Miis and the game would've been just as good as far as I'm concerned. But the world of Ivalice (which really shouldn't be called Ivalice, it's clearly not the same world as FF Tactics) is so vast and so detailed. On the whole, it's probably the largest of the offline FF game worlds by quite a way.

2-FF7 - This just blew me away. There really wasn't anything that compared to FF7's epic scale back in 1997. I still remember the feeling of when you first leave Midgar and you realise that this vast city is only about 1/20th of the entire world's content. For saying it was the first game to go with pre-rendered backgrounds, I think it's incredible how varied and imaginative they were.

1-FF9 - Not really THAT original as each locations takes very clear inspirations, mostly from european history (alexandria is french medieval, lindblum is victorian london, madain sari is ancient athens). But it's all woven together so well and the art direction is incredible. Just exploring the mist continent gives me a sort of quaint feeling of comfort. The 2 issues I have with FF9 are that I wish they'd avoided all of that other-worldly nonsense towards the end AND I loved the locations in the game so much that I was annoyed at the fact that they destroy most of them! I wanted to go back to Cleyra.

I really enjoyed final fantasy 12s world map the most so vast and ever changing. Loved rabanastre and archades.and the creepy dungeons like the barheim passage.can not wait till the hd remastered version

When you put it that way it really makes me want to play FFIX again!

I always liked FFVIIs world. When you leave Midgar, and there's this whole other world to explore! It's just a great, overwhelming feeling. I think all the towns have their own character as well and are designed really well. The music for each area goes really well too. Also, I like the areas like Under Junon, and Corel, with a real chip on their shoulder due to the wealth right next to them, it gives the world a proper "real" feel to it.
