Edward

Edward proved once or twice that he's not completely worthless...

but he's close. I never had him in my party after the point where I was able to switch characters (except to fight Zeromus so I could unlock his trial in the Lunar Ruins...and then once again later on so I could actually complete his trial there). There was a point in the game where he was useful, but that was when he had to be in your party anyway.

Honestly, I like the surrounding storyline of Edward (with the Anna and Tellah plotline), but he sucks in battle. I probably would've liked him better as an NPC.

Silly Edward

Edward is definitely one of my favorite characters from the game. I don't like his whininess when Anna dies, but I like him from after the point when Anna's ghost appears to him. I also really like his character concept as a prince who travels in the guise of a bard. I also really liked the scene with the Twin Harps...

But in battle... not so great to start with. Still, I used his character so much that he was pretty competent by the end of the game.

Well Edward's a generally weak character when he joins the party, but as some people stated he does have the ability to inflict status ailments in battle with his harp which at times could be very useful. I can't say I really care much for Edward as a character, his running away when he got hurt during battle was very annoying.

The Twin harps scene is one of my favorite scenes in the game.
Then when it switches back to the boss battle and the music is still playing, It was the most amazing thing in my Preteen life.:D

Edward was pretty neat and good dodger. I liked harps which weren't all that weak and greatly accuarate. Although, the fact is after I got Edge I'd never trade him for edward. I'm pretty both edge and edward, had the same stats except edge probably had a ton more atk.

Even as a character I didn't like Edward. He seemed too prissy and weak to me. I remember him being extremely weak (attack wise). I'm glad he didn't stick around for too long.

Edward is just an emo wimp. He attacks by "Singing".
Is it a good combinaision in an FF game? No.

I mean WTF!? You sing to attack!?

In the GBA version of the game, I thought Edward was quite useful, particularly near the end of the game in the final dungeon. Certain enemies that would normally take a couple of hits from Cecil's Ragnarok, he could dispatch them in one stance without the enemy ever getting in a single turn using Apollo's Harp. Those who confronted Gold Dragon before will understand how annoying he can be with the Entangle technique, but they're like ants in the face of Edward. For whatever reason, creatures of this type are very weak against the "sun's power" that runs thru the harp, likewise for Holy-weak monsters.

That said, he's not the type you'd want in a boss fight a la Zeromus's magnitude. In this situation, his damage is pathetic and his HP was no help against the Big Bang attack.

If you can time Hide well enough, he can be useful. Which is what I did, along with Kain's Jump.

Ya, I did manage to utilise the 'hide then sneak attack' strategy quite successfully. Just that, the fight became a whole lot more protracted than need be compared to when I used other characters like Rydia, Yang and Edge etc. I'd pick them over Edward any day if it weren't for the perfectionist in me wanting to unlock his trial in Lunar Ruins.

If you take the time to get Edward leveled up; he is actually very useful with his varying status affecting harps. The charm harp is totally awesome. It charms your enemy and deals decent damage.

I stil don't like him, from the moment I clapped eyes on him I didnt like him. He was just a whiny little girl. He was weak and his bard songs were only good as an augment for someone who had a better use. I was so glad when he left my party, and even happeier when I realised he wouldn't be coming back :wacky:

I just....don't like him. Great big pansy

Edward! I loved Edward! His Ninja magic is relatively powerful for how cheap it is, and his swords are quite effective, especially the last two.

Now Gilbart, he cheeses me off, though they made him far superior in the rereleases.

(Is having fun with the original names)

Lol that confused me for a second there.

Anyway Edward (as in the harp playing Edward) was pretty useless to me. His status attacks were ok but they didn't make up for his shitiness in other aspects, he was far too weak for my liking.

I thought Edward was pretty useless in the SNES version because all he did would miss all of his attacks and hide when he was low on health. In the GBA version, he was bit more useful because once I had him leveled up completely he was actually quite strong for me. In the DS version, I just loved using him because his Bard song augument were pretty useful to use throughout parts of the game.

I really hated him but when he got the weapon that has confuse as status attack and learns some useful songs he is a good pick specialy a nice healer and nice stat riser for boss fights.

I liked Edward/Gilbert a lot as a character, but as for battle. Ish. The only thing I like is the haste march, or whatever it's called. Everyone seems to find him annoying personality wise, but I thought he was normal. Yeah, like it's really his fault he's a crappy fighter and emotional over the love of his life dying. :/

Gilbert is such a fitting name for him, haha. Should of kept that one.

At first i didnt really like him he was pretty weak and useless in battle so i never used him, I thought his little story with anna was nice and i respected him alot more after the dark elf part, he might be useless but I guess he has his serves his perpose
This is pretty much how I felt about him. My problem was for me he seemed too girly, he reminded me a lot of Prince Herbet from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, just useless and helpless. Although he did have that part, I think what you pointed out is where I begin to realize he could have a puprose.
