edge's crush on rydia in ff4

Rydia is 20 ? 0_o She looks so short. Then again can't say much because is 21 and has the height of a 14 year old. But nevermind >->

The thing is, is sweet that Edge thinks of Rydia alot but don't really see a connection between the two. And don't want to sound mean, but think Square added hints towards Edge and Rydia because the Edge and Rydia fanbase is so strong among the fans and think Square wanted to support something that was so strong within Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy IV Fans..

So when After Years was created they did anything possible to make the Edge and Rydia relationship more true for its fans and supporters, but before that in the original game (FFIV snes ) the relationship seemed too one sided and don't think the snes had the graphics to see whether Rydia was blushing or trying to hide her feelings whenever Edge was looping around her and trying to be her man. But on the FFIV DS version, Rydia just seemed shocked about Edges flirting and it looks like she has no idea what's going on. And Edge gets told off before Rydia can work anything out. Isn't calling Rydia dumb here, no think that she is quite intelligent but don't think during the original game she knows or understands what love is..

This I quite agree. The relationship is one-sided at first. And the ending at the time (when there was no After Years) was up to interpretation, whether they ended up together or not. It's even logic if SE they wanted to explore the relationship for the fans (which I'm happy for). Also, Rydia had been living for quite some time with the Eidolons and didn't have time for love and all. As soon as she came out from the Land of Summons, she lent her strength to Cecil and the other's, so there was not much time for the relationship to bloom. Though, Rydia and Edge bicker constantly (in the original version more correctly, compared to the DS version where they argue, but Rydia isn't too harsh). And this leads to Fusoya (Snes version) to call them an "odd couple". The ending was hopeful, but still not cannon.
Think Edges case during the After Years is that "absence makes the heart grow fonder " and because he had past feelings for Rydia and he hasn't seen her in years his love for her has grown to almost steel. And think that Rydia is slowly able to work out any mature feelings because Edge is so keen and willing to do anything, even build a giant city to be with her. But he seems a little desperate, and it just seems like it's more addictive feelings for her rather than wanting to be her man..

Though like the idea in After Years how he seems quite the flirt, though seventeen years. No Girlfriend, no wife and he still thinks about her and it's 17 years..
It sounds like he is so keen for her that she has already booked a placing in his heart and has already said no to moving on or dating anybody else and Rydia is the one for him. That would take skills, epsically for Edge if there is any pretty women around the castle..
:hmmm:

Yeah, Edge's case is that "absence makes the heart fonder", but he does sneak now and then to spy on Rydia in Mist (this was proven when we speak to a person in Mist describing Edge). *Shakes head* Edge, Edge. Haha.~

So you can't really say that he hasn't seen her in years. It's just that he hasn't shown himself in person, and doesn't want to admit he wants to see her, or misses her, or even has feelings for her, as evidenced by the ending of ff4 where he pretends not to see her. Though he soon gets matured up in After Years but retains his easygoing and good-natured personality. The difference is that he thinks like a king now. And for this, his love matures as well, growing from playful to serious.

Rydia, too, has had her own development, and throughout After Years, probably starts to understand what her feelings are (though she is aware of herself, thoughts, feelings, etc., it's not like Terra from ff6). I don't think that Edge is desperate because he waited so long, and is still waiting, taking one step at a time. I guess you could say that his feelings are true enough for her that he would wait as long as she wanted to. The ending of ff4 the After Years pretty much says everything, I guess. And btw, I agree with you that I like the fact he waited for so long for her, especially applying to Edge, since there are attractive women like Izayoi (a ninja and one of the Eblan Four) around~LOL.
Rydia too, evidenced by the ending, seemed to have finally developed some feelings for him.

Like Kain and Rydia together because feel sorry for Kain and believe that he needs to be loved. :sadpanda:

Aww~~ Poor Kain . . .

Edge has the skills to pick up any babe he wants, but Kain has been through so much heartbreak and he really felt sorry for Rydia when Cecil wanted Rydia and Rosa to leave the airship, it looked like on the DS that he wanted Rydia and Rosa to have a chance to fight Zeromus while Edge was rude towards Rydia's feelings and like " Yeah, you can't fight as good as us men ! " type of attitude. Don't know, Kain needs love and the female twin would make him a pedophile and Rosa is already taken. And it seems like Kain would do anything for Rosa and be her knight kind of like Squall was to Rinoa if jealously didn't poison his mind. Just feel like Kain would make a good boyfriend and towards Rydia, epsically if he stays away from the jealously revenge plans and mean wearing light blue amour with black magic powers.. xD

But Edge had to be rude to get her off the ship. He did that for her safety, and so he went for desperate action. That's more about true feelings to me, I guess. He would care so much that he would hurt her to get her to be safe. And in the process, he has to receive the lashing out from the other (Rydia). Cecil did the same with Rosa (and was much harsher because he feared for her). He had to be firm to get her off the ship. Kain maybe felt sorry, but that's it, I guess. No offense, though! Kain and Rydia's relationship is something of a shipping, something that you want to see happen, isn't it? Again, sorry don't mean to be rude, and no offense! Just stating something.

I agree with everything you said. I'm in love with EdgexRydia, but I have to admit I first thought of the possibility of KainxRydia. But then I realized he still only really liked Rosa. :/ I also abandoned the thought because they show very little interaction towards each other. -____-

By the way, if there are some pretty EdgexRydia shrines you happen to know, could you please give me the link/s? I'm getting more and more addicted to this pairing the longer I play FFIV... <3

Yeah, Kain only ever loved Rosa. There was too little interaction between them. Kain tried to kill her in Mist, too. So everything was ruled out then and there, I guess. Oh yeah, thanks so much for agreeing with me! Nice to see someone agrees also on my views.

If I can, I'll try to find some for you~ But to be honest, there are not too many websites out there (despite there being quite a number of fans of Rydia and Edge's relationship). I guess you could say that they're not too expressive of the pairing, so you don't see many sites of Rydia and Edge around. Just so you know, I really like this pairing too, so we're at the same wavelength here! Haha~
If you like, you should search this thread for a list of moments between Rydia and Edge, spanning from ff4 to ff4 The After Years. I believe it's in page 4 of this thread. Hope that makes you happy!

I always really wanted them to become a couple. I liked Edge's command menu, and his design, but never his personality until the end of the game. The fact that as soon as Rosa heals him after he gets pwned by Rubicante (and Rosa's Cura shouldn't have been able to fully heal Edge after his HP was depleted to 0) he instantly flirts with Rosa quite annoyed me. Also, reading the thought bubbles characters give in the menu in regards to Edge, it seems that *nobody* likes him at the beginning, least of all Rydia. Good luck to him, Rydia's a great catch.

Yeah, at first, Edge came off as a flirtatious, stuck up guy. And i wasn't too happy that he flirted with Rosa either. But it isn't till he is truly with the team, meaning Cecil, Rydia and the rest that he learns to become a better, more responsible person. He later develops sincere and genuine affection for Rydia, and if you've played the DS version of ffiv (and i assume that you do, because you mentioned the thought bubbles exclusive to the DS version), you'll see that (spoiler) around the final battle or so, he thinks twice about joining them for the final fight. He thinks to himself why did he put himself in this position, but then later his thought bubble changes as you progress closer and closer to the final boss. He thinks to himself that he liked the team too much anyway. "Especially that one ..." he thinks, meaning Rydia.

So his feelings have really developed from being that of flirtatiousness and infatuation, to sincere affection until he would put his life on line to fight with everyone, no matter how dangerous and life - threatening it is. So you're right when you say he becomes better in the end.

In the After Years, (which is the sequel), his feelings have definitely becoming very much stronger (after 17 years he has not kept feelings for anyone other that Rydia!). He has become a king, and thinks like one too, meaning that he has lost his flirtatious side, giving way to a more mature side. However, he still retains his easy - going personality and humor (good thing!). If you want a list of moments (of Edge and Rydia) to show just how strong those feelings have become, you can search this thread. Those are in the FFIV The After Years, of course. I'm thinking you've already played FFIV, so you would know all about those moments during FFIV~

Here's the link for the list of moments in this thread (during After Years) :

If you've read the posts before this, there is even more proof to support the theory that they might have ended up together during FFIV The After Years, and also the sincerity of Edge's feelings, and where it took him in FFIV The After Years. Oh yeah, and they're moments in FFIV, too~
