Edge Magazines Top 100 Games Of All Time...

Edge magazine has produced another one of its doorstep-sized special editions, this time counting down the top 100 games of all time as voted by readers and sundry industry experts.

Sit down, take a deep breath and have a peep at the top ten:

1. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
2. Resident Evil 4
3. Super Mario 64
4. Half Life 2
5. Super Mario World
6. Zelda: A Link to the Past
7. Halo: Combat Evolved
8. Final Fantasy XII
9. Tetris
10. Super Metroid




WHY ISN'T FFVII IN THE TOP 10??? To me, this is a sign it needs to be re-released, to cement its place. Please tell me why you think FFVII isn't in the top 10, because im SHOCKED..
 
I'm sure that FFVII is on that list somewhere. It's been in the top ten forever; I'm surprised it was bumped down.

Apparently all the new generation players who are now...only 12 or 13 years old have yet to play FFVII. That's why I think it's no longer in the top ten. Less demand from younger players.
 
I am actually surprised that more Final Fantasies aren't in the top ten. I thought 7 was better than 12. I thought 9 was better than 12. Where are the Dragon Warriors? I think this poll was biased. I demand a recount!
 
Eliteists wont have voted for FFVII. because of the noobish fanboys who turn every Video Game discussion into OMFG FFVII ROOLZ LULZ, FFVII is hated by a lot of eliteists...

i dont think Rerealinsing it is the problem, ocarina of time is a older than FFVII...i think its just the noobish fanboys that have given VII a bad name.

And for the record that lists majorly fucked up. Link to the past and super mario 64 weren't nearly as fun as FFVII
 
completely agree with you all. It really disgusts me that FFVII isn't in the top 10. It's like it's just been forgotten about. And Halo better than FFVII??? Me thinks not...

Running about with a bad story shooting people in a linear background isn't fun. It's over-rated by Xbox fanboys. Maybe i should quit gaming because i dont find these games the best.
 
Like I said...we can all point our fingers at the younger generation. I've even seen members on here who claim to be FFVII fans who have never even played the game. :omg:

I consider myself to be a younger generation FF player...I mean I started FFVII when I was eleven years old...8 years ago. I could have started with FFVIII like the rest of my age group, but I'm glad I didn't...
 
Tetris should not be in that list. Maybe it was one of the best 10 years ago, but in this day and age, puzzle games like Meteos are superior to it in every respect.
 
Metroid isn't even that great a game...its plausible to complete the game in under two hours for gods sake....

I bet it was a survey on a nintendo site...i dont think any of them are PS2 games :/
 
It's a list which has been chosen by a group of people after much negotiation. Hence it's a consensus vote. And so the chances of anyone agreeing on what should/should not be in the list is nigh-on impossible. These lists are sometimes interesting to read, but there's no point going mad about them.

And please let's spare ourselves the 'it's bias to one manufacturer!' stuff. We don't know what's in the rest of the list for one.

I agree with charlie here.

But we also have to say, so what if FFVII isn't on the list, disappointing as that may be? That doesn't change the fact that it's a legendary game now, does it? It is to us, and this really shouldn't affect us.

You can't point the younger generation. Most gamers today are actually between the ages of 24-40.

Final Fantasy VII was actually legendary for it's time. Final Fantasy VII was the first game to use 3D rendered graphics on pre-rendered backgrounds. FFVII is actually considered to be a very overrated game.

You can't just read and believe what Edge Magazine said. Most magazines have a similar but different top 100 list.

As for Edge's top ten. I'm not surprised that Resident Evil 4, Tetris, Mario and Half-Life is on their top ten. Half-Life 2 and Resident Evil 4 won numerous awards.

I'm actually surpised that FFVI isn't on the top 10 list though. It's considered to be the best Final Fantasy ever.
 
I Agree with the disgust of not seeing FFVII in there but you have to remember. edge magazine is more of a pop magazine so the only people that voted were the casual and the newer younger gamers.

i also agree that this list probably shows some bias towards pop games and high sellers, newer games, and more casual games.
 
lol @ some of those lists on that site. Some look unbiased, but there are a few on there that are clearly biased to certain consoles, depending on what magazine/site it is.


Anyway, no list is ever completely non-biased regardless of what people say, so I just never pay attention to any of them. I've never cared about any Zelda game, and I just plain don't like DQ games, so........yeah :monster:

because hey truthfully. if we spend our time on a forum posting about FF games all the time we probably dont need a magazine to tell us what the top 100 games are
 
I'm actually mad that Viewtiful Joe isn't on that list. It's a great game! And seriously, how the hell is Halo 2 better than Super Metroid?! Halo 2 just seemed... meh to me. The only reason I like it is because of Red vs. Blue (Man, I love that series). FF7 is a good game and all, but in my opinion, it's not THE best game ever. I can't decide what game is (And I will not let other people decide for me).
