http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3...50338?type=flv - thanks Wizard Howl

What do you all think of these trailers?

The combat system looks brilliant, although I'm not sure how characters other than Lightning (or whoever happens to be the "main character" at the time - read: Laguna in FF8) will be controlled. It would be interesting if Gambits made a return, possibly fine tuned with more Gambit options; although I'm almost certain it will be some other way. Hopefully it's more "in-depth" like Gambits in XII and less like the character options given in Kingdom Hearts.

Also, It seems summons will work like Espers in XII; Sazh was replaced by Odin, and his health display had a draining bar underneath it - I'm assuming it shows how much time is left before a summon is called back.

I'm so stoked now, after seeing the combat interface in English, and hearing English voices.

Thoughts?

Yeah I really liked the look of it even though it's on the Xbox, so the PS3 version will be even slicker.

I think the battle system will be some sort of active time battle, with those 4 options continuing, so you can make an attack, plan you're next move and select it whilst you are executing the current attack, so maybe not like gambits. but we'll see!

Was nice to see Odin pop up too, although as the lady says you probs wont get summons til later in the game, but his design (as with all of the summons I've seen for XIII) look amazing.

Things are looking good! ^_^

Whoa........impresssive. Maybe FFXIII will become the new money maker if it turns out well. Really, I was let down a bit after playing XII but this one is now giving me a reason to believe again. Hope Square Enix doesn't crush what little faith I have left by making this game with awesome graphics, but a horrible storyline. I can't judge what from what I've seen, though. 'Course, after hearing their voices, I am a bit worried about the English dub..........

Still, I'm very excited after what I've seen so far. It looks fantastic! Only thing that annoys me is that it's coming out in 2010.........

Honestly I am feeling a good vibe about this game, which doesn't often occur. All I can say is I'm impressed, but what I'm really intrigued about is the story line rather.

I just hope this is a mature plot. I don't know how many kingdom themes I can take in a row. Let's hope for the best, as I've said before.

FFXIII looked solid Lightning already seems a lot cooler than Ashe.

FXIV meh im not too sure if I like going back to old-school medieval times.

I really have a good impression about this game, I think it's gonna rock, though I hope SE doesn't let us down now. <_< The battle system looks better than XII tbh.

I think that's where people felt let down in FFXII, the battle system, something about the gambits wasn't quite right. And I agree it is looking pretty good for XIII.

Shame I'll have to wait about another year, maybe If just shut my eyes, time will pass quicker :P

I was actually referring to the control of other characters besides Lightning; Sazh, Snow, etc. In the E3 demonstration it looked as if only Lightning was being controlled and Sazh seemed to be on auto pilot. I'm curious how we'll be able to tweak this "auto-pilot" if you will.

I kinda agree with what else has been said. I really enjoyed FFXII - I thought the battle system was fun and engaging - but I felt it almost wasn't an FF game with the complete lack of character development and intertwining story.

One thing I hope they keep is the organization they introduced in FFXII. I found it a relief to have a map to everywhere, and the fact that weapons, armor, magic, etc were all clearly labeled was a lot of fun for me. For example, I'm playing through VIII right now, and It's kinda frustrating not knowing where the next shop is at, etc. I suppose technology had a factor there, and surely XIII will continue to evolve the rpg genre.

A major concern I have is gameplay length. With the current fad of having games take 10-15 hours to complete, I will be really dissapointed if this game only offers like a 30 hour story line with 30 hours of side quests. I would like to see a 50-60 hour story line with 50-60+ hours of sidequests.

Hopefully XIII will be a nice hybrid between a story of something like VI or VII, with gameplay and ingenuity of FFXII.

I saw a Tidus in there >.>
Anyway, the voice acting does sound quite slick, although I think it could be improved in some areas, I've yet to see the battle system video since it doesn't bother me all that much but the game, overall, looks fantastic so far. :monster:

The Trailer was very cool, Lightnings voice sounded exactly what id expect from here character design (sounds sorta tomboyishy). Vanillas voice has an australian act sent to it which is pretty cool.

Only thing I wish we could have seen was maybe a glimpse of the true enemy ur going to in the end defeat. I mean like in FF 7 there was sephiroth and FF 8 was Ultimecia and FF12 Vayne and so on. There was a new guy in that trailer ive never seen before as well has some chick, which at first from the back looked like sephiroth, but i very much doubt those 2 will be the grand fanally boss fights.

Anyways game looks great so far and they still have several months to improve upon it.

There's a bit of info on the gambit-type of other players, but not a lot. they obviously don't want to give the game away just yet. So it does seem that it will be similar to XII in that, but you can change mid battle?

Anyway the more i watch the more excited I get. And then I realise that I don't live in Japan and wont see it for a while :gonk:

The combat system is pretty cool, say u have 4 slots which means u can choose 4 attack or defensive moves. You can choose to use all 4 slots for a barrage of melee attacks or use all 4 slots for a barrage of spell attacks or mix it up with different varieties of commands like -Slot 1: Attack- Slot 2: Firaga- Slot3: Cura- Slot 4: Shell and bam! all those moves in one turn. I think that's how its ganna work.

It's a bit sad that it's taking them so long to release this. The Crystal Tools engine is kinda starting to show its age a little, and that's before the first game using it is even out! In the video with Lightning sliding down that big robot thing, The characters look strangely detached from the background. Don't get me wrong, it still looks good, but the "wow" factor is gone as far as I'm concerned.

The combat system looks interesting though. Looks like it might bridge the gap between Final Fantasy XII and the more traditional FF's in that aspect.

Thanks for that interview video link, Wizard Howl.

That shed's light on what I'm concerned with - how we'll be able to control the other characters.

"Active Gambits" sound strange, it will be interesting to see how they implement whatever it is they are talking about. It seems to me it would just be a hassle to change Gambits mid-fight, but I'm sure it will be a streamlined mechanic that will actually be better than Gambits themselves.

I also heard from that video that there is only going to be one summon per character. Assuming they are only talking about Lightning, Sazh, Snow, and Vanille; this is disappointing.

Well, having one summon per character could mean any number of things. It might just mean that you sort of "equip" summons, and that you can only equip one at a time, instead of multiple ones. Or it could really mean that each character is assigned only one summon. Still, that give you five Eidolons total to control. You're forgetting that there's a possibility that that blond-haired kid could be a fifth party member.

From a gameplay point of view, yeah, it's a little sad. On the other hand, from a storyline POV, it might make a little more sense. We still have to wait for more info concerning this subject.

Can't believe I missed those!!!
Guess I miss a lot lately, spend too much hours on working... and on FFs :P.

I was amazed to see that many things are already translated.
I hope it really comes out soon.

The summoning system looks like in FFXII .
Hope that they are useful in this game, not like they were in FFXII.
I wonder if each character has it's own fixed summons or they can be switched. If each has fixed summons, then Snow will become my favorite as it was shown that he has Shiva :).

The battle system is nice, but can't really say much until I'll try it out myself.
There is a big difference between seeing a battle system and actually trying it out yourself.

*sigh*

Now comes the inevitable waiting for the next awesome Final Fantasy, where we replay all the other in the series (which is getting a lot harder to do with so many :P) and other RPG's to get our role playing fix until the next titan is released.

T_T...I wants. Nao.
