I have recently decided I want to learn how to drive (again) & have been having driving lessons with my ex and had a rather funny (if slightly dangerous/stupid/illegal) experience whilst on a country road attempting to get into 2nd gear seeing as I had FINALLY mastered setting off without stalling lol

Anyways, there I was mooching along in first gear after a STUPENDOUS non stally start when he told me to get in 2nd, which I managed rather well and was in smug mode. Two seconds later he was telling me to stop -I had only just processed getting into 2nd- & my mind went blank. I took my foot off the accelerator and couldn't find the brake.
Meanwhile a rather expensive Mercedes was coming towards me so I was like 'oh shit....where's the brake gone?!' In my wisdom, I decided to look under the steering wheel to try to locate it, and rammed my foot down on the accelerator (accidentally) to shouts of 'STOP WOMAN!!! Watch the %&^@ ROAD'' I found the brake so he started screaming 'CLUUUUTCH' instead as I rolled to a stop (still without putting the clutch in and still to shouts of ''cluuuuutch!!!!'' which I eventually did. I swear he was clinging to the handbrake. He dived out of the passenger side to which I slunk back to.
He sat in the drivers seat and muttered 'jesus I was on bloody pins then woman' That was it. I dissolved into hysterics it's 3 days later and i'm still getting the giggles
Lord knows what the guy in the merc must have been thinking......

So, I was wondering if anyone had or witnessed any funny, disasterous or bad driving experiences??
 
Anyways, as for bad driving experiences....Uhhh well, I have quite a list actually. Considering I live in NY, North from the city.... I experience bad driving everyday.

People are always doing illegal things, cutting people off, accidents happen often etc.

I don't understand how people in large SUVs can speed on narrow roads...

I use to be an aggressive driver but not as much anymore. I learned to give up. -_-

And yet I'm actually a pretty good driver, albeit a half-arsed one. I just couldn't give a shit about giving way at a junction and all that crap. It's going to get someone killed soon. :wacky:
 
I got a fairly funny story. I was 15 and in Driver's Ed. We were practice driving. It was me, some dude, and the driving instructor. I was driving, Instuctor riding shotgun, and the dude in the back. I was stopped at a red light and looking at some bansai trees that some guy was peddlin on the sidewalk. I ended up making a right turn, the whole time not taking my eyes off of the trees. I ended checking a fair bit of the curb, bouncing the car up and everyone in it, and almost taking out the stop light. Good times.

In America they hand out licenses like giving out free candy. You only need to pass the written test....which is extremely easy. Need to take a 5 hour driving class. Then you take the actual driving test.

It depends on who is testing you. Some test givers don't give a shit and let you pass even if you hit the curb while parallel parking. Some test givers are extremely harsh and fail you because they feel like it.
 
Its awful here, you have to have a million lessons at 20 quid a pop, i'm having an absolue NIGHTMARE with the gears & stalling on set off grr. Then theres the theory & hazard test. I think I should just give up and walk. I'm a hazard to myself and other road users lol
 
Haha well, actually I had proper lessons about a year ago (I only had 5 then) and didn't stall once. I blame my ex who is teaching me now. I stall all the time. I only quit last time because I was always hungover.

I'm ok once I'm going it's just starting and stopping that I have trouble with lol
