Jump got the usual scoops on Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 last week. Today, Square Enix made a more formal announcement.

The details in Square Enix's announcement are basically the same as what was shared in the Jump article. Players can expect the same basic monster gathering and raising gameplay as in the original. The sequel will feature a huge jump in content, to over 300 monsters, including some giant beasts. Additionally, the game will offer unspecified updated gameplay systems along with added online functionality that includes direct online combat.

There are a few bits of additional info in today's announcement, though. Of particular note is the mention of "real time" battles. This could simply be a reference to the online play being direct player versus player, or it could be an indication of a new battle system. Additionally, the game appears to support between 1 and 8 players for its multiplayer sessions.

Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 is set for April 28 release at ¥5,490.

The original Dragon Quest Monsters Joker has sold over 1.9 million copies worldwide as of September 2009, according to Square Enix.

Good amount of monsters :monster:

Can't wait to get the game. I am really looking forward to it. It will help me have some fun with the DS. I liked the other games in the series and this one should be good, too.

300 monsters sounds like a good amount. Not too much, yet still enough scope for variety. I hope they're not just importing the first DQM Joker's monsters over to the sequel. I actually want to scout for new monsters, so I hope Toriyama has had his drawing pens ready.

I may have to finish the first game first as I've only reached past the actual plot twist after the scouting tournament has ended.

Seeing as it's about to come out very soon in Japan- surely they're broke by now? FFXIII, Birth By Sleep and DQIX came out not so long ago, then they have DQVI, the Pokemon remakes, other big name RPG releases such as Tales of Graces and now this?
