Diablos Dilema

I remember when I was young and playing FF8 and didn't quite understand how everything worked (yet understood the junction system well) I would always summon GFs when I didn't feel like fighting mobs. I remember I summoned Diablos, and because of the way he works (I think his damage works like a Gravity spell, not sure), I would summon him against monsters to see him do incredibly low damage. I even remember getting the message that "(mob name) laughed" after summoning him against random encounter mobs early in the game. The even more frustrating part was that I assumed he was weak, and didn't summon him a single time again until Ultimecia, where I was stunned to see 9999s amount as his damage.

Anyone else ever do this? Or was I just ignorant >.>
 
Diablo deals damage according to his level.
level =% of health taken off max being 9999
Does that explain it to you.
He always dealt alot for me but I over progress by beating the game at level 35.

LOL, you have heard of Demi, Gravity magic correct?

Diablos does exactly that, it deals damage according to Diablos level, your opponent both LV and HP, you can't kill any opponent with Dark Messenger, but he is pretty good against monsters loaded with many HP and have (either one or both) High Def/High Mag Def.

So all in all, its just about your opponent's HP.
 
You are wrong you can but only if their HP is under 9999.
If Diablo is level 100 then you will deal 100% of their health from summing him but he is capped, so you have to find a enemy that has under 9999 HP.
 
Anyone else ever get the "monster laughed" caption when using him though? I'm serious, it happens >.>
 
Nope never.
All I got was a dead opponent of weakened one.
 
I never got that, Is there a Youtube film of it or something? I'd like to see it.
 
Diablos is one of my fave GF's; he just looks so damned cool! But yeah...he was especially helpful when i first played the game with acquiring the tonberry GF as, for me, he dealt masses of damage against them whilst my other characters just physically attacked or remained inactive to help heal the hurt allies.
 
Yeah tonberries AND bigass monsters and bosses you can put 2 sleep!(yeah sleep, cuz some monsters r so strong they just reduce Diablos' charge HP to 0)

He used to do that for me but i realized that he did that so i leveled the crap out of him till he is like death man well not really but he was a good start then pull out like ifrit to win most boss battles
 
Diablos was actually helpful with a Giant Armour guy within Ultimacia's Castle. I remember summoning Diablos and after he was done I got the message saying "What!? You have the summon Diablos!?" or something around that nature. =p.

He can do some major damage. Just try not to get him to late within the game. He will be uber hard to beat and once you do, I think he starts at level 9. =/.
 
I never really bother summoning GFs they're basically just there for the junctioning.

Diablos is useful because of all the skills he carries with him. As for the monsters laughing i never got that message, but i would guess they would laugh from getting only 200HP worth of damage, after such a good looking GF entry.

I once got that message also, i think. It was a long time ago and i've been meaning to repay VIII, but i've got to finish my replay of IX first!

Anyway I used Diablos a lot when killing tonberry's first time around, think it's something like 20 you need to get the King.

yeah when I first got the dark messenger I loved him and when he started doing massive damage he was my favorite.
