Post here which FF game that you think is the darkest outta the entire series. For me FF's VII, IX and X have lots of darkness in them but nothing can top the darkness that is in FFVI.

This is a really a dark game from start to finish imo. Here are some examples of FFVI's dark tone:

1. Before you even you start the game, at least half of the world is under the control of Gesthal and Kefka's empire.

2. Right at the very start of the game you see Terra being controled against her will with a slave crown.

3. Kefka's attack on Figaro castle.

4. The posoining of Doma's water supply killing off Cyan's family and friends.

5. Cele's interrogation scene at South Figaro, that scene is just pure plain and nasty imo.

6. Kefka destruction of Narshe, a neutral town by the way.

7. A lot of the scenes with Shadow's memories, especially the World of Ruin ones.

8. Kefka killing General Leo.

9. Virtually all of the Rachel and Locke scenes.

Wow, is this a combination of the FFIX thread, "Is FFIX The Darkest FF Game"...?
I agree on that one. The last battle, Kefka does a demo on his might as God Of Magic (He's basically one, draining the powers from the Warring Triad then) by using the Light of Judgement to attack random lands ye?

Hmm...I'm going to go with FFVII, just because the events involving corrupt governments, and negative human impact on the world seemed very..."realistic". Those things could actually happen, you know.

The only reason why I don't put any other FF game up there is because most of the other games really were far fetched. For instance, FFVI and FFIX were very fantasy oriented. And FFVIII was very science fiction/fantasy...

The events in FFVII were just "real" somehow.

Final Fantasy VII did have a lot of light hearted and colourful characters/moments too though, so whereas some parts of the game were rather sinister, that doesn't really go for the game as a whole. Surely Nifelheim and Midgar were dark places, but Costa Del Sol and The Golden Saucer weren't really. FF VII also had a very colourful cast with a lot of funny characters on both sides.

In my opinion Final Fantasy Tactics is the darkest game of the series. There's no comical relief characters, no tourist resorts, no wisecracking main characters or any of that stuff. Only war, deceit, murder, poverty, and religion gone horribly wrong.

I'd agree with Tactics being the darkest Final Fantasy... but VII is a close second because of obvious reasons... but then VIII was pretty dark in places, too. Regardless, I somehow think that many of our opinions of which FF is the darkest will change once vXIII comes out, though... based onteh trailers for it, I just htink its going to be a rather dark game... and I don't just say that becasue the trailers take place at night. :P

FFVII i think is the darkest game due to many reasons;
1. midgar it seems such a dark city and is slowly killing the earth
2. septhiroth and jenova are very dark and we see some darkness in cloud
3. the end of the world theme
4. vincent is very dark and mysterious along with other characters and their hidden stories
5. the remnants and mystery things that are unkown about the game and are unexplained show some darkness.

i also think that as far as we see Final Fantasy XIII Versus could be the darkest in the series yet
