How in the HELL am I supposed to beat something that:
1. you can only fight with three charecters
2. uses eraser and wipes out a party member EVERY OTHER TURN
and 3. Counter-attacks with critical hits?

This guy is impossible!!!
 
you need to upgrade your stats :)
once you get into the 200s then use blitz ace and attack reels
 
Try training Wakka, if you can max out his strength and perform a perfect attack reels it can do 1,999,998 damage then one more attack will finish him off.
 
Just train up your characters, especially Wakka. I've trained up my Wakka and all he needs to do is two Attack Reels. I had the same problem and only Tidus could defeat him so I had to put protect on him and just heal and then strike with my overdrive and standard attaks. It's just about patience with your stat bulding. Train, and train some more and you'll win.
 
He wasn't that bad for me. Wakka and Tidus were 2 of my main 3 characters that I had leveled up gonig through the Monster Arena, so they made the battle a helluva breeze since it was an underwater battle. Wakka has strength maxxed out at 255 and Tidus is in the 230 range. Attack Reels comes in handy big time and takes off a butt-load of HP if you use it and nail the combo perfectly.
 
Well Wakka was one of my weakest characters and i still beat that thing, though if you have ribbion on it and also if you have your two of your main character of either Rikku, Wakka or Tidus its alot easier for example my three main characters were Tidus, Rikku and Yuna, so i had two of them in the battle
 
tidus uses blitz ace then rikku uses entrust on tidus then tidus uses blitz ace
 
Well first of all you need DEATHPROOF on some armor, and any other statusproof stuff you need to protect yourself. Youll need HASTEGA
and everyone should have armor that has AUTO-REGEN or Auto-Potion( get rid of all potions and hipotions and just carry Megalixers,Megapotions,and Elixers)
This should put you to an advantage, if not pm me.

MAN... you guys went through hell trying to get through shinryuyeah I did too but I managed to get through him eventually (I needed to if I wanted them wings to discovery items) He's worth the battle alright

IMPOSSIBLE? he's nufn compared to that damned greater sphere. I hate him
 
It easy to beat the Shinryu. I got a really strong Tidus. When the battle begins, I put a Haste and a protect on Tidus. Then, i kill wakka and rikku. When 2 character on 3 are dead, the shinryu isn't using the eraser attack anymore. He just counterattack, physical attack and uses photon spray or something like that each 3-4 turns. I'm healing Tidus sometimes with curagas and with patience, 30 minutes max if your Tidus haven't Break HP Limit, you should defeat him.
 
My best strategy is to get Tidus, Rikkus and Wakkas ultimate weapons (fully unlocked too).

Max out their strength as much as possible. Have them all ready with overdrive and set their limit meter to increase every turn they get.

Have Rikku cast Hastega and have Wakka reel out Attack Reels. You need a 12 hit here.

Shinryuu always counters with every attack so you may need to cut back on hitting him hard.

When Wakka's done, Entrust another Overdrive to him. Go for it again and you will win (if you're hitting for 99,999 HP per turn).

you may get Lucky for him to not use Eraser on that turn and if he hits Wakka you're prettymuch toast. Blitz Ace is good, but Attack Reels is much better
