Come here and discuss cyberpunk...well, anything really.

Cyberpunk anime, movies, books, music, whatever.

I'm really into the cyberpunk genre in general, most of my favorite books or movies are cyberpunk.

BLAME! and Akira in particular are a couple of my favorites, and I really like Serial Experiments Lain, and (what I've seen) of Texhnolyze.

I'm also a fan of Shinya Tsukomoto movies, which are mostly cyberpunk.

And I really like Philip K. Dick books, also cyberpunk.

Advent Children (and FFVII in general) is what would be considered Post-Cyberpunk. As in, it has cyberpunk elements (such as big, industrial settings, a multi-national corperation taking over as the government, etc.), but it's lack of focus on technology and post-apocalyptic-ness makes it only slightly so. Just like Neon Genesis Evangelion.

I'll be a part of this. After all, you did introduce me to Akira and pointed out that Advent Children and Neon Genesis Evangelion has cyberpunk elements in them.

SO. What shall we discuss first?

Well, seeing how we're the only ones joining, lets go ahead and post our favorite cyberpunk works (books, movies, anime, video games, etc.), and then some we're interested in.

Cyberpunk/post-cyberpunk favs:
Akira
BLAME!
A Scanner Darkly
A Clockwork Orange
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
Ergo Proxy
Serial Experiments Lain
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Final Fantasy VII
Advent Children
1984
Brave New World

Cyberpunk/post-cyberpunk stuff I want to check out:
Ghost in the Shell
Texhnolyze (seeing how I've only seen the first episode)
Metropolis
Appleseed
Ghost in the Machine
Hard boiled Wonderland at the End of the World
The Stars my Destination
Gravity's Rainbow

Akira and NGE, thanks to you. :P
Final Fantasy Advent Children is pretty good, too.

...I think I need to look into Serial Experiments Lain a little more. And I need to find The Matrix, for I barely remember that. >.o

Oh yeah, how could I forget the Matrix? Another great series in my opinion, although the third one was kind of...not so good.

I, Robot is also a good one I forgot to put down.

And as far as music goes, Rammstein is considered "cyberpunk", and I really like them.

Basically, cyberpunk is a genre of sci-fi that focuses primarily on dystopian futures where multi-national corperations stand in place of an actual government, extreme advancement in technology, dwells into the psychology of the main character(s), philosophy, and generally questions the existance of God, one's self, life, the universe, and everything.

Thats probably the best definition of cyberpunk I could give.

My all time favorite anime is Serial Experiments: Lain. My most favorite manga of all time is Battle Angel Alita (GUNNM). Both are cyberpunk, and both beat out any other anime and manga for me...easily.
