...doesn't this game feel painfully, agonizingly, almost unplayably slow? The battle system just feels archaic in comparison. Just doesn't age well at all in my book.

Thoughts?

Switch from "Wait" to "Active" and turn up the battle speed to max. Also, set the gambits to attack nearest enemy for the leader and attack leader's target for your other party members. It isn't slow.

Is'nt Slow:srsly: I hate the gambits System.

Even before FFXIII was on my radar this crap felt dated.........I never used gambits, except for extremely dangerous situations such as all party members at 10% HP.Gambiits just made it to easy IMO.

Long Boss fight where all you do is attack like Yiazamat were the only other time I used gambits.

FFXIII Paradigm Shift is annoying in alot of ways but at least it involves some skill.
Not going to list its faults Because they are well known.

Does not Date very well in comparison at all........indeed.

I actually felt the Paradigm Shift system required barely any skill at all. At least with the gambits I can tell my character to do -exactly- what I wanted them to. And if their gambits didn't, I'd manually tell them to. At least I'm not dying because of my stupid party members failing to heal me and such when I friggin' need them to. And if you hate the gambit system you can turn it off, like Galaxyflare.

FFXII had flexibility in its battle system and character progression (License board). I don't understand how it can be slow when your battle speed is on max and your battle mode is on "active". It felt fast enough for me, and I always avoid slow games like Lost Odyssey and Valkyrie Profile 2

What does XIII have? A Crystarium where you hold down a button till you get the next skill/sugmentation. And instead of telling your characters to heal you with a curaga when your HP is down by 70% you're just telling them to "be a healer". Lame.

Also, you can't control the battle speed in XIII all that much, you can just switch from "Slow" to "Normal". And since you have minimum input it feels like it's taking forever while your just sitting on your ass constantly mashing the X button even though it's not doing anything.

Compared to FFXIII, this game is fuckin awesome!! I can't belive a thread such as this exists. No offense, I guess I just thought it impossible to compare the two in such a way.

Paradigm Shift requires constant input........where as Gambits remove almost 75% of player input. FFXII is just a bunch of guys & gals running around hitting stuff and throwing magic at enemies with out requiring and Skill, granted the Paradigm Shift can be boring once you mastered it.

But its ultimately more fun,and thats the crux of the matter....enjoyment.

The paradigm shift is soo tedious after a short while. Mastering it consists of button mashing and half-baked strategy. At least in XII you could be versatile in any situation without getting thumb-lag. It's not fun, its redundant. Much like the heavily drawn out story and the Japanese gone French bs. This thread should go in the XIII section 4real. I hate the game with a passion.

I will say i enjoyed it a little the first time around, but as with relationships, the end spells it out.

Well as long as your keeping an open mind S1G lol!

I did hate it with a passion, but out of a lack of anything else to do It kinda grew on me.......plus Fang is hot,Vanille is hot, Button mashing ? I dont think so, pay attention to the finer point of the game and it is alot of fun, but if your jaded you might not be able enjoy, like I dont enjoy FFXII.
