I've been listening to a lot of classical music lately, and I must say that listening to those songs really make me feel sentimental towards many things. I really do believe it cleanses one's soul one way or another.

So, any fans out there? What's your favorite? It could be from any period. What thoughts come to mind when you hear these type of music?

My all-time favorites are definitely Canon by Pachelbel, Tristesse by Chopin, Fur Elise by Beethoven, Minuet by Basch, and Ave Maria by Charles Gounod.

There's a lot more, but it's a pain remembering their titles at the moment. I should also add that I love the sound that the piano makes the best, accompanied by the violin and cello.

Of course I like classical. :monster:

No seriously, I do enjoy it sometimes but it depends entirely on what mood I'm in, it's not something that I could just listen to over and over again if I was in a bad mood.

I can't for the life of me tell you any names of any songs that I like because I either don't know or I can't remember.

I'd like to learn piano one day, the cello intrigues me also.

Here's a great "Canon" video I just found, whoever said that the electric guitar was the Devil's instrument? :monster:

I'm very high in the love of classical music. All of the songs you listed and more are just something I like listening to. It's calming, and makes you more open to feelings and emotions. Plus, I find it easier to write/draw/and even sleep when I put on the more calming songs. This is all coming from a cellist...I do play cello...and playing the music is almost as good as listening to it...

I thoroughly enjoy the soothing melodies that classical music has to offer. It brings out a pleasant calm in me that no other genre of music can duplicate. It's probably a major factor in the reason why I'm into Symphonic Black Metal. I love black metal and I love classical music. Put them together for the best genre known to mankind: symphonic black metal.

I Enjoy Classical music, I haven't listened to any lately, but it's like I don't want to it's just hard to get my hands on some.

Ave Maria is based off an old Prelude by Bach. It's a beautiful tune.

One thing that really irritates me is when people seem to think that all Classical is soothing, and all mamby-pamby.
Listen to Liszt's Transcendental Etudes, or Rachmaninoff's Piano Concertos, then tell me that Classical is soothing.

My favourite Tunes are:
Liszt's 4th Transcendental Etude (Mazeppa), Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto #1, Mvt. 1, Moonlight Adagio by Beethoven and some other shizz.

My favourite composers:

Franz Liszt
Sergei Rachmaninoff
Fréderic Chopin
Ludwig Van Beethoven
Sergei Prokofiev
Claude Debussy
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Georg Frederic Handel
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Modest Mussorgsky
Mily Balakirev
Antonin Dvorak
Antonio Salieri
Darius Milhaud
Dmitri Shostakovich
Edvard Grieg
Giuseppe Tartini
Johann Sebastian Bach
Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach
Ludovico Einaudi
Mendelssohn

I can't say I'm a fan, I love rock music and will hopefully die listening to it. But Classical music is deffinatly something I can see which takes a hell alot of talent and work to create, An orchestra takes alot more arganisation than vocal bass guitar and Drums.
I can happily stand in an elevator and listen to it no probs :)

There's something to be said about coming home after a day of school, getting high and listening to some classical music.

I recently purchased a Mozart CD and I must say, it is quite soothing to listen to. I also love (quite a strong word to describe a song, but I feel it's appropriate) "Le Onde". I can't be bothered to try and spell out the composer's name, but he's still alive...I think.

Yeah, Le Onde is by Ludovico Einaudi, it's amazing, isn't it? I can play that song, and another off that album called "Questa Notte"

I'm not sure if this is a classical one or not bur I love listening to ballads, and basically anything that has a sound of piano. Notice the way in the movies they have an orchestra for hero scenes? So yes I guess I'm a fan

Classical music will always have a place in my heart. As it has been said, it's not just about the calm, soothing melodies, but some of them are playfull and some very dramatic. I like all styles of classical, though the Romantic period holds the most appeal.

I've been listening to the Peer Gynt suite by Grieg- not just two movements that everyone knows (Morning Calm, Hall of the Mountain King) but Anitra's Dance is lovely too. I also like Rachmoninoff's no3 piano concerto, though I don't listen to it so much anymore because it reminds me of a past boyfriend:mad:

I'm going back to Uni next year part-time, I'm doing a music degree. Last time I went to Uni I was based in Music Tech, but the classical and theory always tugged at me and when I dropped out to have my son I promised myself that if I went back to Uni I would stay true to myself and stick with the music.

That's certainly very promising and inspirational. I can tell how much you really love the music, especially to make a promise like that to your son. =]

I actually listened to a lot of classical music when I was pregnant. I heard it helps the baby's development although I don't really believe it makes them smarter. Sure it probably encourages to the creation of neurons and synapses in baby's brains, but I seriously doubt it actually produce smarter children.

But I think it does help them calm down and unwind the emotions, especially the mom. To this day I still listen to classical music but not so much as I used to anymore.

I'm currently taking an A-Level in music, Music Tech, Music Theory (Grade 5-8) and Music Performance.

I plan on going all the way to Masters level with music.

Also, guys, I'll be taking my Grade 5 and 8 in Piano consecutively soon.
