O.k. this is my second thread and i've been reading alot on this site about people getting the guide and going through the whole game while using the guide.... I personally don't believe in using the guide at all the first time through but the second and third ect... I will use one just to get the most out of a game. What do you guys/gals think?? First time through do you use the guide or do you go raw??

i go through the game without guide but when it comes to the sidequests i use a guide cause its almost impossible to complete ff12 without a guide 100%:)

Me too - I'm only going to be using it for hunts, and Espers. Not for anything else. If I miss things out first time round, no biggie - I'll used the guide properly second time.

I usually like to finish the game on the first try and get the most out of it. The reason is because I have so many games next in line waiting to be played, so I most likely won't be able to play a game the second time through. Therefore, I like using the guide on the first try. Heh, call it cheating or whatever, but atleast I have this satisfying feeling when I discover a secret because of the guide. ^_^

I must say though, FFVII is the only game I played without a guide and I discovered MOST of the secrets and the sidequests!

I haven't bought the strategy guide of FFXII for this reason...The fear of missing something always overwhelms (Goodbye Zodiac Spear) but I prefer seeing what I can accomplish all alone and then compare it to what is possible....Like in FFX-II, I'd say my first go-round alone netted me about 70% of the true game...Missing Yojimbo and not attempting all those levels in that 100-level tower (which was exceptionally annoying IMO)...

The first time i played through this game (without the guide) I reached the end boss in under 30 hours.
I'll never play this game again.

i played the game again after doing everything so i did a low lv game

That's a shame tbh. But oh well. :)

i never use a guide on the first go.....but from what ive heard i may get one just for the side quests

i say no

I say no cheats man every one uses cheats on ff games so this time im goin thure wiht no cheats or the ff guide

I don't believe you should intertwine the words "Strategy Guide" and "cheat". THose are two totally diffeent words. You can connect "cheat" and "gameshark", but in no way, shape, or form does using the strategy guide give your actual game save stats or characters an advantage over the rest. Itsimply maps out what they recommend for a play-through, and heck, if no one would have ever bought or used the stregy guide for this game, we'd all be without the Nechronal of Nabrudis Zodiac Spear right now cuz I can guarentee you that everyone would ahve opened up at least one of thos forbidden treasure chests.

I use strategy guides in times of dire "Stuckness" or for side quests, but "cheating" is not the word that is conencted with it.

im not saying the strategy guide is cheatin dude the title of this thread is cheat or not to cheat i was just say we shouldnt cheat i said nothin about the strategy guide dude

ok maybe i did but i didnt mean that i ment the cheats no one should use the cheats the first time they play

Yeah I agree with you on the cheats part. i was jsut wondering why you made the topic about cheating and the main question you asked was whether or not we used the strategy guide or not. I undestand the miscommunication now though man, I gotcha.

I used the strategy guide when needed on my playtrough, but I doubt I'll ever use cheats for a FF game. Just not worth it or any fun to me.

I understand your point gameshark vs. strategy guide as far as cheating...But the strategy guide does give you all the answers. Just like taking a test or commanding a war if you know or can look up all the answers or what the other side will or wont do next isn't that cheating?? Now gameshark is beyond just knowing... it is straight up cheating. When i started this thread i should have not put "To cheat or not to cheat" I was mostly interested in the use of the strategy guide the first go round.. I think this calls for a new thread!! How bout " Strategy guide,, is it cheating?" :) sorry for that

Yeah, using the guide isn't really 'cheating', but i dont use it till after my first try- I missed the Zodiac Spear because of that, so i gota restart
