MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS: -

At the end of Final Fantasy VII you see that Midgar is in ruin but you see that RedXIII has survived after the events 500 years later, then Final Fantasy Advent Children came along and the rest have the cast have survived. So how long do these characters live for? Is Cloud 523 years old?

its stated in game that the longevity of reds tribe is well....long, he was like, 40 something - which to his species was about 16 in huma years

the longevity of the humans is I assume, the same as what ours would be

And Advent Children is 2 years after the events of VII.....

@Bambi - Ah I remember that. Yeah, I just remembered about it being 2 years later, but wouldn't putting 500 years later confuse people? It's confusing me, why did they comment on the years of the Nanaki tribe, instead they could of commented on the years gone by overall for ....confused >____<

I think the whole 500 years later thing is put in the game to show the player that, yes the big bad is dealt with and the planet starts to heal itself. Which, in my opinion, is one of the greatest endings in a game ever.

Bambi, already answered the rest.

Just to give us an ambiguous ending I guess...?

Leave you wondering if Holy actually did wipe out the human race for the benefit of the planet afteral?

I quite liked it, thought it was a nice touch

Advent Children was set two years after FFVII so Cloud would have been around 23. :hmmm:

That scene after the credits shows Midgar pretty much in ruins as it's fallen to the ground and has been covered by growing plants. In Advent Children, Midgar is still intact. I believe Red XIII's race probably is long-lived but the rest of the characters are just normal humans and have normal lifespans.

Hmm, I never actually thought of the ending in that way. :hmmm: I just took it to mean that the bad people(symbolized in Midgar, aka Shinra)were put to an end and the planet started getting back to normal, aka growing green life everywhere.

That'd be sad if the human race does eventually get wiped out. Poor Aerith, she died for practically nothing. :(

Well, Its more at the time, once everything comes to a head, and you have no idea whats happened to everyone, then it fast forwards 500 years. Obviously, the guys would be dead by then, but it leaves you wondering, did they all get wiped out at the time, seeing as we never actually get to see anyone after the event other than Red - who obviously wasnt human

Of course, the human race clearly survived because we got Advent Children

Hm, well since it's 2 years after Final Fantasy 7, its good to see that the characters still survived, so maybe the whole 500 years forward into the future is showing way beyond after Advent Children? That the earth is continueing to heal?

Keep in mind that FFVII was made before Advent Children was even conceived so I don't think you can really connect the two. Advent Children was more fanservice than anything.

I think that's probably the intention, though I also think that there was the intended ambiguity with wondering if the humans also survived... like, it was jut a stand alone game at the time, so there was no AC or out else in the pipeline at the time :hmmm:

Ninja :mokken:

Pretty much this.

When I first played the game I seriously thought they all died on the airship. Why else would a director show the main Character closing his eyes and then the player sees a dead girl?

I just thought they all died then and there.

That's true, I never though about that. Final Fantasy VII was made years ago and they probably had no intention of making a movie because they probably didn't know it was going to be very popular. :-)

Yup, yup, and yup. Which makes ya wonder--did they all die at the end of game? I know a lot of people thought that way. So.

I don't think I ever took that ending as having all the main characters die.. They have never really done that in a Final Fantasy game so I honestly don't think that's what was intended. But who knows..?

I will say though, just to clarify to the person who started this thread, that after the opening scene of Advent Children (with RedXIII showing his kids the overgrown Midgar) the words come up in a black screen saying
"498 years earlier", which is to say that the rest of the movie takes place "498 years earlier" from the opening scene. This is easy to forget though, because it's written in Japanese and unless you know Japanese the only discernable part is the number 498, which could easily mean anything else. I watched the movie with subtitles once though, so that's how I know..

@Meds - Ah that I remember! I'm sure on my Dvd it said '498 years later' That's when I first thought 'Hey, then why are Reno and Rude still alive?' Unless it was a mistake, I think I'm going to have to look at my DVD and see...

@Princess Bubblegum - I didn't like to think that they all died as I really loved the characters. >__<

That 500 years forward thing at the beginning of AC was just a great way to start a film that we'd been waiting on for years. It's how the game ended, it makes sense to open up the sequel with that.

Nahhh, I've made this mistake before as well - AC isn't set in Midgar, it's set in Edge. The WRO's highway connected Edge to Midgar is used during the motorcycle chase, after which Kadaj escapes from the highway and lands near the Shinra HQ. That highway is there because the Midgar residents have moved to Edge and use it as a means of transporting resources and salvagables from Midgar to Edge. So regardless of whether or not the humans did survive at the end of VII, it's now explained why Midgar was abandoned and covered in greenery.

I never noticed that but it does make sense. :hmmm:

I watched a fandub of AC and I never saw the English version; I don't remember any mention of Edge but there you go. I probably should have watched the real one. :8F:
