Alright fellow GFXers.
Program Used - GIMP 2.6
Elapsed Time - 5-15 minutes
You wonder how you can get a smooth blended and smudged background without the use for a render?
Well, I found a way to do it.
First of all,
Open up your desired stock image (has a background).
I went with this.
-----------------------
1. Duplicate the main image
2. Now go to FILTERS » ARTISTIC » GIMPRESSIONIST
3. Select a preset, does not matter and click update on the bottom of the picture, click Okay.
It should look like this.
4. Now what you wanna do is erase around the focal point.
5. Select the smudge tool. Select the Galaxy, Big brush. Set the brush statistics to -
6. Start smudging the image in one fluid motion, I suggest diagonally.
After you're done, it should look something like this
'
6.1. Sharpen the smudged layer to 50 and use Gaussian blur set to 1, to make it smooth. Experiment with the blur settings.
There you go, easy. Have fun.
Even if you use Photoshop, this might be an easy way to get your backgrounds to the desired effect.
