The first trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was released a day or two ago.

I wondered how they will continue without their lead (after the real life passing of Chadwick Boseman). It seems like they might pull it off by continuing the story of Wakanda and its inhabitants, whilst also paying homage to Chadwick and having T'Challa/Black Panther die off-screen within the MCU continuity. I wonder if they'll expand upon or explain T'Challa's death, or if it'll just be a thing everyone takes for granted and moves on. It would have to be very delicately done, but this trailer doesn't imply anything less. It was part teaser for a film, part tribute.

I'm interested in the use of Namor the Sub-Mariner and the Atlanteans/Homo mermanus in this film. They're going down the route of making them a sub-branch of Mayan/Aztec culture, it seems. It is an interesting change, so we'll wait to see what they've done there. They haven't shied away from blue skin for many of them too.

Also, blink and you miss it moment with Ironheart cutting out her metal heart shape while making her suit (I guess). She'll become a new Iron Man type character.

I thought this trailer looked better than I was expecting.

Anyone interested? Not interested?

Not.

I understand that they want to continue BP because it was African focused and mainstream successful. I get that the guy died and they're screwed. Might want to pump the brakes on promoting or having expectations for a Black Panther movie that doesn't have the Black Panther in it.

Imagine for a moment that you're a casual viewer of Marvel stuff. You've seen Ironman and Avengers. The many faces of Spiderman are hard to sort through but you're familiar with the major players. Now this movie comes out with no lead character that you've heard of. There's no bad guy that you've heard of. It clearly has a 'sad' feel to it, so it's not immediately clear that you're going to have fun. The trailer seems to imply that this is heavy on the girl-power, there's an underwater birthing scene, and whales for some reason.

The chance anyone who isn't a die-hard fan going to this is pretty small. Whether or not it's a good movie is irrelevant. It has red flags all over the place. The only thing keeping Marvel from drowning from this past year is Spiderman. The budget is supposedly 205mil, which means it needs to make 500mil-1bil to be profitable, probably closer to the high end. Disney is already struggling, I'm actually worried that this will be so bad that The Mouse panics and starts pushing the "Cancel" button.
