BioWare: "Final Fantasy XIII is not an RPG" [5/14]

In terms of name-changing the characters, I don't think we'll ever see it again in future releases (unless it's an online one, and unless SE change their ways) due to voice-overs; if we change the name of the characters their names will not be mentioned in by the voices of others.

I suppose SE did this well X where Tidus can be renamed and his name is not said during the game (hence the argument of whether it is Tee-dus and Tie-dus), but I don't think they will change things back, they don't really tend to go backwards.

They don't have to go backwards. It isn't a step backwards. It's a step sideways. Fallout 3 and Mass Effect do it rather well, with Fallout 3 they never call you by name and Mass Effect they only say your last name. Square Enix could do something similar. But this is all assuming that I care whether Final Fantasy is still an RPG or not. If the next Final Fantasy is as good as VI was, then I could care less what we call it. I just want something better than XIII.

Sorry, but how low can companies go to advertise their own games? It's obvious that Bioware has never played a Final Fantasy game before, or a RPG for that matter. For them to make such a complete biased opinion makes me lose all of my respect towards them.

Lol considering they made at least 3 RPGs that a lot of people really like, I think it's safe to say they've played an RPG before. And, over the course of the years, I'm confident at least one of them has played a Final Fantasy. He isn't trying to upsell his game; he's just being honest. And a lot of "RPG" qualities were left out of Final Fantasy XIII.

As a technical RPG FFXIII fails horribly but didnt even the creators claim it wasnt going to be the normal FF RPG type game?
I swear I read that somewhere befor the game even came out...
I was expecting more cutscenes since I saw on TV thet the creators wanted to bring in the "fight like ellements of Advent Children" in to it so all I could think was cutscenes ...
I was surprised by the sheer....crappyness of the RPG style it did have since it seemed to be lacking so much in them....besides crap as another stated im realy not sure how to classify this game at all myself

To be fair to BioWare, they've said it before release, this just confirms their own point really. All being said, Square-Enix couldn't hold a candle to the quality of BioWare.

I'd check out Fall Out and other RPGs, but the age ratings are way too high - I'm such a wuss. Let me have my fantasy blood and violence, can't handle realism xD

Meh I do not agree with this statement. Sure you are Always on foot and save points almost everywhere you go. You cant return to other places once you finish the game. Just
Eden Pulse and Orphans Cradle
. Thats all but still it DID have the elements of an RPG. Battle system and all that was rpg like, of course it was unique with paradigms but still its still classified as an RPG. All FF's cept the online ones are Rpgs. The story was good and I know to some people it sucked horribly. You didnt get to fight
Nabaat
You only fight Cid once
and you dont even get to fight other bad guys. But FF XIIII is an RPG. So I dont know what the fuck people are saying here.. Its just stupid in my opinion. Its an FF and FF is an Rpg. Sure it has its ways sometimes but who cares. Its still Rpg. Towns with enemies in them was not that great. I know there was a lack of towns but its still an Rpg. And for some a LONG and boring on foot Rpg.
