Biggs and Wedge?

Yeah, thats because the Biggs and Wedge in FF are homages to them. they seem to die in most of them though :P like FFVI VII and VIII.

did the original Biggs and Wedge Die?

there in every FF from VI onward (except IX) and their also in KH2 as storekeeprs in armour shops, and their in chocobos dungeon 2 as black mages. Thier also in chrono trigger as Vicks and Wedge again..

They never died in FFVIII. You see them on the Lunatic Pandora just after Fujin & Rajin fight in which they both quit the Galbadian army.

Biggs (Darklighter, Luke's friend from Tattooine), died at the end of A New Hope in the trench sequence. Wedge Antilles is a little fuzzier, though. If I remember correctly, he was the one who wouldn't tell Vader what happened to the plans and was in turn strangled (off the floor) aboard the blockade runner. However, I seem to remember his name popping up again later (but I think it was in the Radio Drama, which although approved by Lucas I doubt is actual canon:unsure:).

thats true. either George Lucas or SQUARE got the names from either one.

I remember fighting them in FFVIII near the start(before that annoying robot spider that you don't get any experience or AP for)
I also remember them in AVALANCHE in FFVII and I think it's Biggs that falls out of the tower and lands right by you and you find Wedge more near the top.
I don't remember them in any other FF(never played VI)

Square boys are big Star Wars-fans so that is solid proof that that Biggs&Wedge names were taken from SW. And FFXII world had lot similarities with SW-movies.

I totally agree. Balthier has a sort of a Han Solo character in my opinion. It is more like episodes 1,2 and 3 than 4, 5 and 6 as far as the airships and monsters go.

Yep. So far, XII takes the cake in it's homages to Star Wars, going so far as to mirror many aspects of it. Evil empire? Yuppers. Bright-eyed youth with his head in the stars (or skies, in this case)? Uh huh. Deposed princess leading a revolution? Got it. Family member turned evil wearing a big scary suit
who goes good in the end
? Yup. As reddas mentioned, Balthier and Fran being the equivalent to Han and Chewy. And many many more.

To answer an earlier question somewhere the Wedge in Star Wars does live. In fact he is the one responsible for blowing up the second Death Star. Yea it is just funny to keep seeing Biggs and Wedge poping up in the final fantasies. Most funny was FF8 cause you just fought them so many times and thier dialouge was just so funny. Remember in the desert prision you could confuse the two into attacking eachother and they would cry when one would attack the other.

Yeah I'm a real big Star Wars nut so I've always loved the Biggs and Wedge characters. I ALWAYS look for them. As far as they go in the Star Wars universe, Biggs Darklighter dies during the first death star attack, and Wedge Antilles goes on to be in Rogue Squadron with Luke during the battle at Hoth in Empire Strikes Back, and he was in the space battle on the 2nd Death Star run in Return of the Jedi.

The books take him even further. Wedge leads Rogue Squadron after Luke goes off on his own to do all his Jedi crap. Eventually he even becomes some general.
