You can go into more detail and discuss the things you posted in the Favorites and Worsts Thread, and I can't figure out why there wasn't one of these already xD

Rules

1.) Put some thought into your posts, a.k.a. no spamming. Try not to post things like, "SEPHEROZ IS MY FAVORITE LOLOLOLZ" or "KOTR RULZ CUZ THEY HAV SORDS!1 HAHAHA" and last but not least no, "MATERIAZ R STOOPID". You have to give reasons why you like or dislike these things.

2.) Stay on topic. I don't mind if there are actually long drawn out discussions people get into about favorites, and why someone likes a certain character/cutscene/weapon/relationship or not etc....but don't go off on totally un-related tangents.

3.) DON'T FLAME. SRSLY, There's nothing dumber than someone flaming another member because they don't feel the same way about a certain character/cutscene/weapon/relationship. STFU, It's only their opinion. DEAL WITH IT.

If you don't follow these rules, I'll just kill you %D *skips off*

Note: This thread isn't just for your favorite characters, it's for your likes and dislikes about everything in FFVII. This is an extension of the Favorites & Worsts thread. i like zack even though he played almost no part in ff7 he just appeals to me in the way that he will stand by someone he hardly knows to the end (death)

So...this is for our favorite and least favorite Final Fantasy VII characters?

Favorites:

Cloud
Vincent
Sephiroth
Reno

Reasoning: Silent, focused, battle-hardened characters appeal to me. They're less likely to utter corny lines dealing with feelings and affection. As for Reno, I love him simply for his character on Advent Children. Whether or not that can apply to the game, he's still a favorite.

Least Favorites:

Cait Sith
Red XIII
Yuffie

Reasoning: These characters are dispicable. Cait Sith is completely useless; Red XIII is a ridiculous character (talking tiger...thing); and Yuffie is just plain bothersome in nature.

Indifferent:

Aeris
Tifa
Barret
Pretty much any other character to make an appearance

Reasoning: To me, they were just sorta...there. Didn't stand out as being great or awful. Aeris' role in the game is crucial, however.

Favourites:
Male Character: Cloud, he is just the meaning of cool, he's hardass, lethal and no-nonsense.
Female Character: Tifa, she's hot and has one of the best limit breaks!
Nonplayable Character: Reno, he is just cool and has an appealing attitude, when i saw him in AC i was amazed at how similar he was to how i had always imagined.
Place: Wall Market, i love the part of the storyline in Wall Market, though admittedly it is a bit creepy. I also love the music.

My favourites are Cloud. He isn't the leader to begin with but his leadership skills is why the rest look to him for help.

Vincent. Personality wise he kind of similar to Cloud. I like his calm attitude and acts like he doesn't care when he does.

Cid. Some of the stuff he is is great. Pissed off redneck who is also capable of leadership skills but finds it tough be cause he "Can't remember who has what materia". :D

Barret. Same as Cid. I think he comes across in most peoples opinion as Mr. T. You could just imagine Barret saying "I pity da fool!" or "Quit yo' Jibber-Jabber!" :D

Is Supernova considered a summon or magic? That was both my favorite and least favorite attacks in the game. Favorite because it was so badass, and you really can't come up with anything more epic than that. Least favorite because, well, Sephiroth used it like four times on me, and each time it left cloud with almost no HP, and gave him just about every ailment in the book, while killing the other two no matter their HP level at the time.

Well, I like alot of things about VII. I love the chracter development. They all seemed to interact pretty well and such things as that.

Dislike? I kinda didn't have to much of a dislike. I honestly didn't like the materia though. It was a weird system to have for a FF game.

I've wondered about that myself :/ I can see where it would be considered a summon by some, but it looks more like magic to me, but that's my own opinion, so I don't know xD I haven't been reading up on my FFVII definitions/terminology lately xDD

And I know, that's incredibly irritating. I've beaten Seph tons of times without KOTR, but God knows that it's a lot easier with KOTR, having your party equipped with Ribbons, and using the lovely W-Item glitch to get as many Megalixer's as you want. %D

awww, why was it weird? ;-; I liked the materia xD

Dido, I liked the materia system.
Well, at least more than VIII's draw system anyways.

Maybe it was because there was a limit to how much materia you put into your equipment, maybe?

Maybe it was because there was a limit to how much materia you put into your equipment, maybe?
Yeah that could be it...I did get annoyed at the weapons that only had like, 2 materia slots...That's just dirty pool xD

Ill start with my favorite and least favorite characters. mainly because i have a lot to say about them :P and it contains a VERY long ANTI-TIFA RANT, so beware :monster:

Favorite male Character Cloud.

Why?

Simply put, Cloud is the ultimate FF hero, he has the huge sword, the gravity defying hair and the purple jumpsuit. Everyone loves him. he has 3 girls in that game fawning all over him. he survives his identity Crises and hospitilsation and goes on to save the world. and he has a huge sword, whats not to love? :P

Favorite Female character - Aerith

Why?

I adore mages, and Aerith is THE Ultimate Mage, defensive-wise her limit breaks can't be topped, Invincibility anyone? and offensive-wise, well, Load this girl with Black magic materia and she can do more damage than Cloud. and people call her weak.

People bitch that you can only use her for part of the game, well thats another reason why i love her, her impact on the storyline and FF in general is so profound. her death is one of the "spoilers too famous to be considered Spoilers" list, and everyone who's heard of FFVII has heard of Aerith.

Her personality is lovely, shes a kind caring person who doesn't mind being shishkababed if it means saving the world. she plays the innocent act well too which just makes her Uber cute! ^_^ and her dress and the boots are just perfect.

Plus she saves the world...twice...despite being dead  nothing stops this girl.

Least favorite male character - Cait sith.

why?

Lets sum it up nicely. Did i like him? did i find a use for him? do i enjoy his impact upon the storyline?

the short answer to all this is a simple. no. i do not.

Cait sith is a Terrible battler, and a dirty rotten spy. i dislike him immensly. and his voice in AC makes my ears bleed.

Least favorite Female Character - Tifa

Why? (beware LONG rant)

With Tifa theres simply so much i dislike about her ill disect each aspect :)

Fighting style - Tifa gets a lot of praise for her use in battle yet i found her worthless. she did random damage, she went from 2000 to 300 in a single battle. her limit breaks, yes although you can chain them all together, theres the fact that it misses quite alot and the fact that you can't actually choose who to attack with them, making Tifas limits a game of luck. i prefer a stable fighter, not someone with whom i have to rely on luck for.

Personality - Whoever decided to invent this is both, Very sexist, and lacking in imagination. This proves to me that Characters added in at the last moment do NOT work. It seems to me that her whole point in the game was to "think about Cloud" and everything about her Revolved around Cloud - she was CLOUDS childhood friend (but not reallly - more on that soon) she was in love with CLOUD, she was the one who had to stay with CLOUD. She needed to get a grip, get a life, and find something to do. i found her to be a pitiful wrench of a woman. Her only redeeming factor in the game was when she escaped in Junon and slapped scarlet. but she ruined that by whining about Cloud ten minutes later. The fact is, that Tifa is not the Strong confident sassy martial artist chick that many MANY people make her out to be, shes a scared, unconfident, self-doubting woman who needs her securtiy blanket (cloud) to do anything.

Actions - I was immensly annoyed with Tifa when we found out she lied to him the entire game. the fact that she didn't tell Cloud they WEREN'T childhood friends just so he wouldn't get angry with her really pissed me off, she needed to grow a spine and stop lying to everyone. The way how in her childhood she didn't take any interest in cloud until he said he was going to join SOLDIER and then forced the "promise" onto him just emphasised that Tifa was the real Female in the damsel in distress role.

Appearance - Again, whoever invented Tifas costume was a very sexist person who wanted to turn Tifa into a sex symbol. it worked. By giving her a tiny tank top, short skirt and Huge breasts. But, this is all rather out of character for Tifa. For one, shes a martial artist, and how many martial artists have huge breats like her? that would hurt. A lot. and Tifas not a woman who would go around flaunting her...assests on display. shes a shy woman so the tank top and the miniskirt are just so wrong with her. Also the fact that when she wins a battle she Sticks her chest out is just wrong. and something that Tifa would never do (unless she's got back problems XP)

In short, i found that Tifa was a wasted character. she could have been so much more but she was reduced to being "the childhood friend" (though not really) and the sex symbol of the series. Which makes her popular with some, who call her the strongest FFVII character. but to others (like me) it makes her seem weak and pathetic. [/rant]

The Tifa rant made me sad ;-; xDD

But to each his or her own ^^

I guess I always thought of her as uber powerful because........she was xD I mean on my save file she is anyway. And I hardly ever missed with her limit breaks O_O

I guess that's why I don't understand that part of the rant. Maybe it just depends on how you handle her, what materia you give her, etc....With her final weapon, the higher her limit break gauge is, the stronger she'll hit. By the end of the game, she was taking off massive amounts of damage on everything with her limit breaks, but then her attack power once the limit break gauge goes down, does become weak. But, you don't really need to go around and use her limit breaks when you're just fighting all those piddly little monsters.

So all I did was equip her with the Deathblow materia. That completely solved the problem. I was running around leveling up, and I never had to waste her limit break, because while using the deathblow materia instead of the regular attack, she didn't use her limit break, and every single time she hit, she hit for 9999 without fail.

The rest of the rant? Well, to be honest I like flawed characters who screw up or make bad decsions xD I just do ^^ Which completely explains why I love Lucrecia as well.

As far as appearance.................I have an obsession with her boobies. *guilty face*

I had the same deal with Tifa, she was uber powerful on my first and second playthroughs, and I never missed with her limit breaks, because....I was just so darn good at timing. XD

Other than that, and to save face in front of AG, I did level up Aeris quite a bit. Never got Great Gospel though (first time I ever heard it existed was on this forum a month ago.), and she was really useful in a pinch because she could heal quite easily when her limit break reaches.

Cait Sith, I did not think he was a weak character at all, in fact, I thought he was pretty powerful. It's just that his limits were all about chance, I think that people tend to dislike him, and not only that but because of his un-aesthetically pleasing appearance. Game Over is pretty sweet.
So is dice, especially when you raise the dice to a bit more slots.

Can't say I liked Yuffie much, only used her the 2 hours after I got her and no more. I hated her sidequest too, a bit...random, if you ask me, and a bit weird. o_O

theres a difference Between "Flawed" and "royally messed up" but each to their own :P

I agree that Yuffies sidequest was a tad random, but i actualkly enjoyed it, i liked the randomness, it went with Yuffie completely, and we got to see Don Corneo again...the little Pervert.

i always made sure that i wrote down my Materia order first though XD

Yo Aeris Gainsborough you are getting it all wrong. Tifa wears a tank top and skirt so she can fight, you think she's going to be able to fight in a dress i dont think so! Also i cant belive you're being so childish over a bunch of pixels jeez grow up! Plus if you having such a fit on how she's designed dont blame her blame Tetsuya Nomura. Tifa also has large breasts because Tetsuya Nomura found it easier to draw her polygon. Nuff Said!

FFVII, like any other game, had high and low points. It had a fairly good storyline, and perhaps one of the most simple battle systems in the series (much opposed to that FFVIII rubbish). It also had its flaws. Characters lacked depth, the primary villain was predictable, very few secrets to uncovers, and sub-par bosses. Here's my favorite/least favorite list.

Favorites
:

Character: Cait Sith. Yes, Cait Sith catches a lot of hell for being a somewhat lame character. However, I thought the actual thought that was put into him was quite interesting. An fascinating robotic creature, being controlled by a man working for an evil corporation, who seems to be caught between remaining loyal and exercising his moral convictions. Plus, despite a lot of contrary belief, was actually quite handy in battle. A highly under-rated character in my book.

Honorable Mention: Cid. A smoking, hell-raising, airship captain. Any questions?

Villain: Hojo. Quite an unpredictable character. A scientist driven mad by his inferiority to his predecessor...who happens to chill at Costa del Sol and get the ladies. His cold personality and twisted sense of humor makes Hojo a character that we may never fully understand. Plus, the spin that he put on the Vincent side-story was great.

Honorable Mention: Reno. A slick, all business mercenary...that while employed, seems quite neutral of the situation at hand. It's a shame that he never came over to the good side, he would have made a great playable character.

General: The Materia System. Amazingly simply, but with enough depth to do interesting things with. In my mind, it falls only second to the FFIX system. Genius.

Honorable Mention: The areas. Given that this game was produced in the mid-90s, the beauty of the areas are amazing.

Least Favorites:

Character: Aeris. A character that generally lacked in depth. She perhaps would have been a better character had her past been more clearly explained and had her story been more substantive. The vagaries surrounding Aeris did not make her any more of a mysterious character, as she just does not have that sort of personality. As far as battle goes, she really wasn't that useful unless you dug into her later limit breaks, and let's face it, how many of us actually got that far by the Temple of the Ancients? Considering her crucial she was to the storyline, she could have been better developed.

Dishonorable mention: Barret. A loudmouthed idiot who was often more of a headache than a comedic relief. His role, in both character and battle, was much better filled by Cid.

Villain: Sephiroth. Yeah, yeah...Sephiroth is god, whatever. Let's be realistic, he was a predictable crybaby with a mother obsession. They tried to make him into the traditionally intelligent, cold villain...but they wound up with something different, something sub-standard. Not to mention that Sephiroth was perhaps the most disappointingly easy boss in the series. Both Safer and Bizzaro Sephiroth's (an even Jenova Synthesis) were complete jokes.

Dishonorable mention: Tseng. You'd think the leader of the Turks would be at least a somewhat substantive character. However, no. He is never featured in a battle, he gets perhaps 15 lines in the entire game, and is killed at the Temple of the Ancients. Disappointing.

General: I actually did find anything generally bad about this game, I thought the summons were somewhat poor...but then again it's an early FF game, and I've played both IX and X. Overall it was an all right game.

I found it irritating the first time I did it, but for some reason on my 2nd play through, I liked it xD I kinda liked the total randomness about it, and I agree about how it went with Yuffie ^^

That makes sense actually =o I think the reason I didn't use him was because of his limit breaks :x

And it's kinda strange, but, I don't think Cait, or his Moogle were ugly, but together like that, it was kinda off putting. Buuut, if it had been Cait by himself, I probably would have loved him. The Moogle too I found cute in an odd way, just not with Cait on his head.......odd isn't it? xD

RACIST!!1.......kidding :P I liked Barret most of the time ^^ He did make me laugh, and he had a bit of a background. But I do think as far as in battle goes, he could easily be interchangeable with Cid.

I have to agree with you there too :/ I beat Jenova Synthesis in less than 10 mins, and I when I got to Safer/Bizzaro Sephiroth, I never had to change teams even once to beat him :/

Sephiroth himself I didn't even find to be a huge challenge, but I'm a level up whore, and was at like lvl. 99 and used the W-item glitch and had about 99 Megalixer's xDD Plus having Knights of the Round doesn't hurt either ^^;

Due to his incarceration in survivor, AG has asked me to convey the following:

Yo Aeris Gainsborough you are getting it all wrong.

First of all, its Aerith Gainsborough. Secondly, just because my opinion differs from your own doesn’t mean I’m wrong. J

Tifa wears a tank top and skirt so she can fight, you think she's going to be able to fight in a dress I don’t think so!
Wouldn’t it be a hell of a lot easier to fight in shorts anyway? Girls I know are always complaining how restrictive skirts are. Especially if they’re as tight and small as tifas is. She rectifies the mistake anyway.

Also I cant believe you're being so childish over a bunch of pixels jeez grow up!

I dislike a character and explain why and I’m being childish? Right…yetr you’re the one attacking me for disliking the character, whos the childish one now?

Plus if you having such a fit on how she's designed don’t blame her blame Tetsuya Nomura.

What you call "having a fit" I call explaning why I dislike her. Sheesh and I notice you haven’t mentioned anything on how I attacked her personality and actions…. Maybe because you only have an opinion on her clothes

Tifa also has large breasts because Tetsuya Nomura found it easier to draw her polygon. Nuff Said!

Proof? And I don’t see why he just didn’t give her smaller boobs. It makes it easier for her to fight, it worked in AC anyway :monster:
