I dont see a thread for it, so here goes: what's your favorite FF game OST and why?

Hands down mine is IX, it's got good battle music (Dark Messenger), sad songs that make you sad (Memories of That Day), dancy songs (Vamo' allá Flamenco), weird-but-cool ones (Ipsen's Heritage), and even good creepy ones (Fossil Roo). That and it just has a fanciful charm to it that really fits the game ^^

After IX, VIII is the second best in my opinion. And i absolutely love the Advent Children soundtrack, but it's not a game OST <.<

I love Final Fantasy VIII's the best. because its music is much more memorable to me. Final Fantasy VIII was the first FF game I played, which may be why it is so memorable lol

Mine would be, hand down, FFVII.

The music just fits the best with the whole feel and theme of the game, in my opinion. Both Aeris' theme and Tifa's theme will be stuck with me for the rest of my life, I think.

Beautiful tracks, those are. Quite...quite monumental in gaming, I think.

Actually I would say FFX. Completely. It's characters really kept me interested and the story line was really well done. Good stuff.

I also think the soundtrack was one of the greatest.

The VII is good, but not one of my favorites...i mainly like it because of the nostalgia it brings. I agree, Aeris and Tifa's themes are great, but i think Advent Children made them even better.

We're just talkin OSTs here, not the entire game <.< And i have mixed feelings about X's soundtrack. Some of the songs on it are really pretty (Wandering being one of my favorites), but alot of the songs on it just sound really uninspired to me.

Yeah, I agree with that. Especially the piano versions of those two songs, they are just pure awesome. :monster:

In fact, I have the whole AC track in my media player, well, I think I do anyway. =\

Forgive me. I didn't know what OST stood for.

Anywho, I still say X was the best Soundtrack. It has plenty of soft ballads for that calming mood.

I have the whole soundtrack, downloaded it last year ^^ I've got the soundtracks for VII through X, the Black Mages albums, and the piano collections of VI and VIII. Only one i physically own is IX though, and my idiot dad lost it too...

S'okay ^^

Yeah, X does have alot of those soothing songs (like Wandering, This is Your Story, The Way of Purgation), and it does quite well on those tracks. But alot of others i find to be either uninspired or not Uematsu style at all. But i have to admit, i frikkin love the Hymn of the Fayth, i'm not sure why but i just do.

Lets see...on IX i'd say the best soothing songs are: Dali, Passing Sorrow, Secret Library Daguerreo, Unfathomed Reminiscence, Loss of Me, Song of Memories... *rambles on and on* Okay, so half the songs are pretty soothing songs. Guess that's why i love the soundtrack so much.

I'm with you all the way on that. IX is definitely the best OST in my opinion. To me, the music just went perfectly with the game. Some of my favorites are Vamo' alla' Flamenco, Hunter's chance, Rose of May, the boss theme and the place I'll return to someday.

VII and VIII had great soundtracks as well though. I don't remember X's that much because the voices irritated me so much I turned the sound down completely.

I can't decide between FFVIII and FFIX often, both soundtracks perfectly evoke memories of playing the games, and both have some great highs on them. FFVIII probably has the better 'best' tracks (Liberi Fatali, The Castle, and my all-time favourite Ending Theme) but I think FFIX may be a little more consistent overall. Some of the 'ancient instrument' tracks on FFIX are especially lovely and haunting.

But I think for the quality of the final CD alone, I'd go for FFVIII. Just about anyway :)

Haunting...that's a good word for alot of the IX songs, like Burmecian Kingdom. Alot of them have a melancholy air to them as well, like Freya's theme...and then there's ones like Ipsen's Heritage...which i'm not entirely sure what feeling i get from it, but it's plain awesome.

Liberi Fatali is such a great song, i love it almost as much as i do One Winged Angel ^^

Ya know, i dont find alot of VII's music to be that memorable (although it certainly surpasses XII's soundtrack), but i have to say, i love the boss music.

VII had its high points and the boss theme is certainly one of them. I also liked the Shinra company, the turks, Aerith's theme, and one winged angel. My absolute favorite is probably Cid's theme though. It just fit him perfectly.

FFVII was a great soundtrack, but FFVIII was even better. I really can't stop listening to any song from FFVIII. I mean the beats totally kick butt. Like "Man with machine guns" that song is so 80's and that is why I love it so. And there are a lot of sounds that makes me cry too. Like for example "Eyes on Me" every word she sang made me cry so much.

Man with the Machine Gun is awesome, so is Maybe I'm a Lion. Eyes On Me never made me cry, but Melodies of Life from IX makes me cry.

FFX gets my vote.

FF7 and FF8 OSTs were really good but I love so many tracks from X. Uematsu has some gold hidden within the 4 disc set and I love playing some themes over and over again. Themes like "Wandering Flame" and "Someday The Dream Will End" are made of awesome. "Path of Repentance" is also one of the greatest piano themes I've ever listened to.

Haha, the alternate title is "Via Purifico". It's the theme when Yuna and company first try to escape from Bevelle from the long corridors. You probably recognize it now.

Ohhhhhh, yes i do have it! And i love that one too ^^

To me, IX is the best soundtrack, followed closely by FFVI. I love the variation on "A Wicked Melody" that begins the Kuja boss battle, but unfortunately it goes south from there. Overall, though, it's a nice, very self-referential soundtrack. FFVII's was probably the weakest ST entirely composed by Uematsu, IMO. "One-Winged Angel" saves it from being a total disaster, however, along with a handful of other highlights.

I think the best thing about the IX soundtrack is that not only is it wonderful in and of itself, but almost every song on there reminds me of the exact location or scene where it played in the game, and that in turn brings back whatever emotion i experienced during that part of the game. Other soundtracks dont do that for me, save for a few tunes.

Hmmm, i would choose FFVII, with IX and X coming in second.
I sometimes listen to this sountrack to chill out.
The Cosmo Canyon theme is awsome, Beach Boys-like Chocobo theme, the chilling Those Chosen By The Planet, Boss Battle theme, Opening/Bombing Mission are just some of my faves, not to mention the absolute brilliance that is One Winged Angel...:P
