Is there actually a use for terrain as the manual says, or is that just a joke? xD

I'd have loved the battle system more than I already do if only we could've used all those sweet cover like rocks and other stuff on the battlefield. Like hide behind them, shoot, and not get hurt.
But that's not the case, obviously, the monsters can still hurt you, sneak up behind you, and corner you, even.

In fact, the only terrain effect I've ever experienced (a bad one) was being cornered by BaGam'nan in the Lhusu mines in a dead end. >.<

o_O Sounds almost like a first person shooter game in that sense…

Lol… You know, hide behind a rock and take out a sleeping Cactoid or two with an RPG. :P

Anyway, doesn’t really seem all that FF’ish when it comes to the traditional fighting style of the series, I guess.

The only terrain feature I found was being on a different floor level from someone and being able to hit them with a bow, they would come around to get me eventually though.

I always thought the terrain was supposed to affect battle stats too. Such as taking the high ground gave you the advantage. Sadly that didn't happen. Just another failure I suppose...

Pfft, they'll hit you THROUGH the damn rock. Yeah, totally realistic SE

Actually, one feature they took away from the battle system that was a very awesome idea was the back attack thing. In previous FFs, if you snuck up on an enemy and hit them in the back, it'd do double damage, and vice versa. That made sense.

I don't understand why SE took that away, because that could have played a much bigger role in battles in XII. You would always be trying to get behind enemies to back attack them while watching out for your own back, that woulda made battles alot more involved, cuz let's face it, with gambits you can walk away from the TV, come back 5 minutes later and your party will have won.
