Am I the only baseball fanatic around these parts?

I love the strategy of the senior circuit. This chick does NOT dig the long ball as much as small ball: bunts, steals, double steals, and situational hitting make me happy. I also adore good pitching. Which is a good thing, since my rivals trot out Cy Youngs like Lincecum and Cain, even when they have no offense whatsoever.

I am a Dodger fan. I suffered through some very mediocre years, and I'm very much enjoying a year that has given me some pretty good baseball to watch (despite second half slumps and a slew of nagging injuries).

I am eager for the postseason, but still on pins and needles. Will we hang on? Will we crash and burn? Will the Cards once again blow my boys away when they get to Busch Stadium, which is usually where their main slump of each year starts?

And for the record, I do not cheer for the juiced bat on our team. For the last few years, I've been watching our young core come up through the farm and start to establish themselves. Last fall, I had ambivalent feelings about Manny's stealing the limelight from them, even though he did raise the bar for them tremendously. Then he turned out to be a sham. Now I cheer his benchwarmer, Juan Pierre, very loudly. ;)

I love baseball!

Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to boo your team. I'm an Angels fan and our teams have a pretty big rivalry going on.

My team's looking pretty good right now. 5.5 games up with only so many to go. The only thing I can hope for is that they don't start to suck towards the end of the season like they always do.

I live right near Angel Stadium. I don't get the animosity between the Dodgers and Angels-- different leagues! -- although I do find the Angels' attempt to pretend they're in LA, in a different city, different county, over an hour's drive away rather perplexing.

But I know a lot of folks have fun with the rivalry, so boo away!

I think the Dodgers are trying to do the "lay down at the end of the season" thing so the Angels don't have to, this year.

I went to a game yesterday.

The Dodgers laid down and rolled over for the Padres.
THE PADRES.

THE FRICKING PADRES.

Feel free to point and laugh.

My boys mounted a dramatic rally in ining 7 or so, and seemed to come out of the coma, but they keep having games with a TON of people left on base, and then losing by one. This is not good.

On the other hand, part of the problem yesterday is that our staff ace just came back from having a screaming fastball hit back into his skull. That was scary, scary, scary. It's a miracle he's pitching now. He has been off in rehab for a bit, and gave up 3 earned runs. Offense shoulda backed him up more. :(

I can't really grumble too much about injuries, though, after all the heartbreak the Angels have been through this year.

Yeah. Injuries have killed us this year.

I think they shoulda kept their asses in Anaheim, that way there would be no problems with the "Freeway Series" bs that they go through every year now.

The Angels have had some crazy close games this year. Coming back from 5+ down in the 8th and 9th to win the game. I hate it. I love when they win them, but hate when they have to deal with that situation.

What I don't understand is why our teams start off slow, then slaughter people around the All-Star break, then suck right near the end of the year. It's a miracle that the Angels won the World Series in 2002.

Bringing this back!

How bout them Phillies? Is Roy Halladay really that necessary? He's great yes, but they got hosed trading away Cliff Lee.

Btw, I'm an Astros fan and I know they suck.

i don't know, they got holladay but they loss cliff lee who was there best pitcher. so they may have gotten a little better with holladay, but will it make it a big difference, i don't think so

but haven't been a huge baseball fan lately, just follow it sparingly now not like back in the days when i was a huge rangers fan with juan gonzalez, and dodgers fan with the big 3, mondesi, piazza, karros. miss those good old days

As a Mariner fan, I haven't been this excited about an upcoming season since 2002. We may end up having the best starting rotation in the AL (Lee, Hernandez, French, Rowland-Smith, Fister/Morrow) and it may get better if the rumors of Washburn coming back come to fruition.

We signed Chone Figgins, finally giving us a reliable #2 to hit behind Ichiro.

We have arguably the best overall defensive unit in the league.

Our bullpen is solid.

Most importantly, we got rid of Carlos Silva.

All we need now is a left-handed power hitter.

But how do you feel about having Milton Bradley? The Mariners may look good on paper but I thought that of the Chicago Cubs of last season. I just believe that even though the Angels are getting worse and the Mariners better, the Angels will still find a way to win and the Mariners won't.

At least he'll play. Silva was nothing but a $12 million black hole. Bradley will be our 4th outfielder. Actually, to be completely honest, I wouldn't be surprised to see us try to ship Bradley out, though I doubt anybody would bite on his horrible contract.

Now, if we can land Cust, I predict us to win the division. He's the final piece of the puzzle.
