Am I the only baseball fanatic around these parts?
I love the strategy of the senior circuit. This chick does NOT dig the long ball as much as small ball: bunts, steals, double steals, and situational hitting make me happy. I also adore good pitching. Which is a good thing, since my rivals trot out Cy Youngs like Lincecum and Cain, even when they have no offense whatsoever.
I am a Dodger fan. I suffered through some very mediocre years, and I'm very much enjoying a year that has given me some pretty good baseball to watch (despite second half slumps and a slew of nagging injuries).
I am eager for the postseason, but still on pins and needles. Will we hang on? Will we crash and burn? Will the Cards once again blow my boys away when they get to Busch Stadium, which is usually where their main slump of each year starts?
And for the record, I do not cheer for the juiced bat on our team. For the last few years, I've been watching our young core come up through the farm and start to establish themselves. Last fall, I had ambivalent feelings about Manny's stealing the limelight from them, even though he did raise the bar for them tremendously. Then he turned out to be a sham. Now I cheer his benchwarmer, Juan Pierre, very loudly.
