The Chinese market has become one of the largest markets for entertainment throughout the world. Due to this, we've seen American entertainment companies and their willingness to compromise to wishes and expectations of Chinese companies and sponsors increase. The most recent issues have included Apple and the NBA - but appealing to the Chinese market has been part of Entertainment for more than a decade now (Transformers: Age of Extinction was the first time I really took note of it).
In direct defiance of this: on October 2nd, South Park aired an episode "Band in China", which satirises and mocks these sort of practices: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Band_in_China. This episode swiftly led to a mock apology from the creators of the show and the banning of South Park within China.
On October 8th, the episode was streamed in Hong Kong as a sign of protest.
