[17/09] TGS '15: FFXV Dawn Trailer 2.0 - SPOILER: Not much new, but beggars can't be choosers!

Was the Dawn trailer from Gamescom a major disappointment for you as well? Well, sadly, we're stuck with it until Square decide to launch a new story trailer for Final Fantasy XV (presumably sometime in the run up to the special release date announcement event in March). In the meantime, and prior to Tokyo Game Show's Active Time Report this Sunday (Japan time), here's a slightly lengthier version of the same trailer!

This time, both Noctis and Luna look fiercely determined. You can tell it in their eyes - those flames of passion burning away as they briskly walk on with heavy hearts and racing minds. And good news? The hugging sequence doesn't dominate the trailer as much as it did in the first version. Enjoy!

BONUS: Some screenshots and Lunafreya's keyart. Yes, you can ride these Chocobos. And you can fish as well. Hopefully it will not be as governed by RNG as in FFXIV. The official FFXV Twitter calls Luna the "Oracle".

I actually think the trailer came off as pretty intense stuff, I like it. It's also good to see Luna's character take up more importance in this game's marketing now. She sure didn't look like a simpering damsel in distress here.

Luna's official description, found in a SE Facebook page of all places:

With a mere wave of her hand, Lady Lunafreya of Tenebrae brushes aside the imperial soldiers surrounding her. She accepts her trident from her attendant, and sets off to commune with the gods. As the Oracle, she enjoys the adoration of supporters the world over. What sort of monster could point a gun at such a divine creature?

So if you piece some of the clues together:

- Imperial soldiers have occupied Altissia and are presumably holding Luna there
- She is valuable as a conduit of contact with the gods and therefore indispensable to everyone, so they're not going to dare to kill her
- Trident + Altissia location = Luna is likely the person who summons Leviathan
- Leviathan wrecks shit for whatever reason. Unknown if this is imperial intent, or just a summon gone rogue. Looking at the E3 2013 trailer, I presume it's the latter, because the Niflheim imperials are also caught up in the whirlpool attacks.

---------------

Also, my biggest problem with this trailer remains the same as the first:

WE LACK SUFFICIENT CONTEXT FOR THESE CHARACTERS' PASTS TO CARE!

If we know sufficiently more than what we have been getting - why is Noctis's dad crying and hugging his son? Who is that guy shoving young Luna around and what is the context? - the whole deal about moving forward from what occurred 15 years ago would garner genuine emotional resonance. But it obviously doesn't work, because we don't know these people or their backstories, so the whole exercise comes off as manufactured.

She sure didn't look like a simpering damsel in distress here.

At the same time, she isn't in control of the situation either, and she seems to be relenting to coercive demands from her captors. Still not a very flattering portrayal of her! But at least she looks determined, right?

lmao Luna looks like some mafia mother in that last shot. I'm glad you mentioned those eyes, because while it may be nerdy and a tiny detail, the way they look impresses me :wacky:. The more I see of the cinematics, the more excited I am for the game. They just need to show some battles in a more interesting location now, I reckon, and we'll be all sorted :monocle:.

Its the same with small extension. I hate that they just edited so little. I rather wait for a full story trailer.
