I've been working on FFVIII and finally got to Ultimecia's Castle 2 days ago and was wondering if anyone had any tips or advice on how to prepare.

I've missed a few GFs, namely Siren and some others. I have Quezacotle (sp?), Shiva, Ifrit, Diablos, Brothers, Leviathan, Cerberus and Alexander, my repertoir of magic...is, well...not that good and my weapons are in bad shape too (haven't really come accross much to upgrade, only been able to get Rinoa's second weapon, Squall's third and i think i have the suff needed for Quistis's third weapon). I guess the only thing i do have is that my main GFs are leveled up at around 50 or so, but i'm feeling rather underpowered.

At the chain leading to Ultimecia's Castle, there are 3 portals, but i didn't quite see any way to get back to the Ragnarok which i left at Tear's Point and i couldn't even enter Deling City, i guess because i'm in the Time Compressed world.

I do have a save before entering Lunatic Pandora, but i'm not very thrilled at the idea of going all the way back to that point.

Still, I'AM hoping to finish the game this time and any tips, tricks or advice is much appreciated :)

Thanks!

Damn. The monsters you fight in Ultimecia's castle have new GF's so there couldn't be a way you could go back and get them. I say cash in all your cards for items, turn th items into strong magic (triple is the strongest to junction and I recommend having it on str). Just go all out for this battle because it seems like you don't have too many tricks and that it's your first playthrough.

Make good use of the aura spell and try upgrading weapons and such. Try leveling each character to at least over 50 if ytou want to. Or you can junction magic well...I think it's your best bet to go after some holy wars or heroes to refine for backup or just in case.

My last advice is to give it all you got! I often find myself having the fighting spirit in FF games in tough battles and though it may look finished for you, tables can always be turned.

From outside galbadia garden during the battle of the gardens (It's hidden below the tree) and draw from seifer during the last battle with him. His is a very easy battle, so you can draw all you want. That's what I did. There's also one in Trabia garden. But these three are impossible for you since you are already in Ultimecia castle.

if you are patient enough and if you have gotten ragnarok, try drawing from island closest to hell/heaven on the world map. You may just come across aura.

1 fury fragment can be refined into 5 auras, 1 aura stone can be used or refined into 1 aura, both using support magic refine

Lastly, there's an aura draw point at the wine cellar in ultimecia castle. I think all that I have listed are the only possible ways of getting aura without cheating. The easiest way to get it is from Seifer, but you have already got past him. Maybe you can farm some fury fragments and refine them. Aura can be very useful. I spammed aura and limit breaks for most boss battles. So good luck.

Whats an Aura Speel?

Blue Dragons can drop upto 4 Fury Fragments they arte also dropped by Grendels and Ruby dragons...........and I think level 30+ T-rexaurs?

There are several Aura Draw points on the Isla et Cealestus et Infernus...........Heaven and Hell:D

Other advise is refine your cards if you have the good ones?

Bahamut=100megalixirs
Laguna=100 heroes
Gilgamesh=10holywars

These are advanced items only gettable(thats a word?) through very tough side quests........some not available on disc 4

I know you can draw a powerful spell called apocalypse from one form of the final boss. Its powerful and you can draw cast I think. Anyways if you plan to do it without limit breaks make sure you are well junctioned. If you are not go fight around and make sure most of your characters are strong. In the final battle if your characters stay KO'ed for a period of time then they will be replaced with another. So make sure all your characters are strong or you could be able to kill them with just three well junctioned characters.

Thanks, i'll keep that in mind.

Is there actually ANY way to re-stock on supplies on disc 4? i found another save i had where my Irving and Zell are 40something and Squall's around lvl 80, but i'm still missing some stuff...especially enough Double or Triple spells and Protect/Shell which i think i have none of, i also have i think 4 Auras.

I'ld be fine if i had Cerberus, but on that save i have in-turn Siren but not Cerberus.

You can get Tonberry if you can make it back to the Ragnorak. He has the Call Shop ability and the Junk shop. Call Shop lets you call any shop you've been to and buy items. Junk Shop lets you upgrade weapons without having to go into a town. You get Tonberry by
Killing 20 or more in the cetra ruins. The place where you get Odin.

No you just need be on the ball from the get go, MeltDown, Aura, Renzokuken.

Is what you need to do, because at 35,000 hp toneberrys are pushovers, just hope to god you get a Lion heart Limit Break when you fight ToneBerry king, and heal like the callapers!

Spoiler blocks.........nah.

Someone else mentions using Limit Breaks during the fight with Ultimecia, but don't you get limit breaks only if your HP goes below a certain percentage? meaning that if i try keeping my HP up so that i don't get killed, i won't get Limit Breaks as often?

Also, i messed around with that alt save i got in Ultimecia's Castle and fumbled around with my GFs and Junctions, got Squall's Str around 130something and his HP over 9000, Zell's Str is around the low 100s and his HP is like....3000something i think while Irving has base Str, HP around 5000/6000 and Magic around 70something. How's that looking for taking on Ultimecia? if i can't get Cerberus, would it be a viable option to use the Triple Spell? how many Auras should i have? i looked again, actually have around 9 and then i have plenty of Protects, Shells and some Meteors and plenty Ultimas. Sould i worry about other stats, or just Str, HP and MAG?

Thanks!

This final battle is pretty damn tough when you compare other FF's. Being level 100 means precisely nothing. And attacks are more reliable than magic. Just have your team souped up, there's really not to much stradegy. It's all brass taxed ass-kicking.

Thats been part of the problem why i asked for some advice here, most other games i'ld go right up to her, get beaten, go grind a few levels and return to whup her up real good, but grinding levels isn't going to help me much here.

Once i finish off some of the bosses remaining, think i'll go have a shot at her and see how things fare o.o

Thats a Fiction not a Fact unless you used a gameshark.The strongest magic that can be drawn and can be used(without decoding and gameshark) is Ultima, apocalypse is a unique skill by ultimecia (just like Ultima/Omega Weapon's light pilar).

Well as for the topic, if you want to obtain all of the GFs, then get the draw skill unlocked from Sphinxara and draw the other GFs from the Ultimecia Minions. Just a tip, you can get Eden(strongest damage inflicting GF in ff8 from Tiamatt or I think from Trauma aside from getting it from Ultima Weapon, but you wont get the Eden card but can still be obtain from the card club in the Ragnarok if you choose to go to the 3rd portal in the chain road. You can get the ragnarok by riding in a chocobo(they are not affected by the time compression) and ride till you reach Kashkabald Desert and find the ragnarok there. If you have the ragnarok, you can now find the Gfs and the items even weapons that you did not obtain before. You can grind your level on Island Closest to Hell and Heaven(just be carefull with the Marlboro(s)

More importantly,Lion Heart still is the best weapon to finish ultimecia, combined with Irvine's Ap ammo.

Goodluck

I've played FFVIII several times right through, though I won't claim to be an expert, I do know the game pretty well.
Three things I would recommend before taking on Ultimecia are:
1. Make sure you have more than the story-line GF's. Go out and find Buhammat, Tonberry King, Doomtrain, Eden and Giant Cactuar. (you'll have to do all this on the third disc) The more GF's you have the more varied abilities and defenses you will have.
2.Make sure you have plenty of Aura spells. Aura is a spell that lets you use limit breaks without being low on health. Good thing to do is cast triple than use triple aura on all characters. Zell and Irvine are especially useful if they do decent damage (Squall goes without saying really).
3. LIONHEART. Seriously, Don't try to beat the game without it. You can do it, it just takes forever. Make sure Squall has aura all the time and keep using Renzokuken, he'll eventually use the lionheart attack, which if your damage counter is 9999, will take off around 200 000 hit points. Totally worth it.

These pointers always get me through the game. Oh, make sure your characters at above LV.65 at least. It's best for all your characters to be more-or-less even, as for the final battle they get picked out randomly.
