Hi everyone. =) I have a question. I just finished Kingdom Hearts and I was wondering: do I really need to play Chain of Memories in order to understand what happens in KHII? I gave CoM a try a month ago, but I didn't like that whole card system thing. =/

So is CoM really that important? Will it help me unserstand the plot of KHII or can I just start playing KHII without worries?

Thanks in advance!

No, actually. I made the mistake, and now I've got like 34827523987349857354987 questions. seriously. Get the game and get in the know unlike me. I would have already but I don't have enough money to get it.

Yes and no.Honestly,i played it last and still got the story quite good.it would be recommended, but is not an absolute must. But it will allow you to get the game a tad more in your understanding of it

I'd have to agree. If you can, play CoM. but if you can't no biggie. It's not vital to the story in KHII. you might play KHII and end up with a few more questions than you would have had you played CoM first. But you're going to end KHII with questions no matter what you do. it's just left that way.

Technically, I played Re:CoM after beating both KH1 and KH2 and I actually was relatively okay without playing CoM during my playthrough of KH2 despite a few major questions that lingered even after playing that game.

However, the story in CoM is definitely worth playing through, especially since you play from both Sora and Riku's perspectives.

I stand by my KH fan mindset when I say CoM is NOT a filler to be ignored, damn it! :mark:

And at least playing Sora's story explains his situation in the beginning of KH2; the CGI intro was a little misleading on how that happened >_>

And anyways, you're gonna need to play CoM when 358/2 Days comes out, since that happens along side and a little after CoM from my understanding.

No, it explains a few things, but I understood 2 without playing Chain of memories. I just got COM a while ago.

I would recommend playing that game on ps2, it's easier than the GBA version.

I would love to play this game on the PS2. But strangely, SE never released the PS2 version in Europe. I don't really know why and frankly, I am annoyed because I haven't played it on GBA.

Playing CoM isn't crucial I would think - I guess it just gives you some extra context to digest. But then again, don't listen to me. I've yet to fully catch up on the KH series. :britt:

I bought a NTSC ps2 so i could play that game and others that weren't released in Europe,so i recommend doing something like that.
The game has a lot more FMV's and nicer cut-scenes,vocals, more side-quests and bosses etc.
Which is pretty sweet, i also liked the GBA version but this one has more options and you also decide difficulty as in the other KH games.

I would honestly recommend it if you want to understand some of the plot points in 2 (and some in Days).
I'd recommend the GBA version more than the PS2 one, however. Even with 3D gameplay and voice acting, grinding seems longer and more monotonous in it than in the GBA one, where battles don't usually take too long.
This is talking about Re Chain on Standard (and of course, the GBA one has no difficulty selection), by the way.

It would help, yes. But I pretty much knew how everything goes out anyway and I played KH2 first, so either way. But I personally think CoM is a good game anyway, so...
